Kiddo Version Please!!!
Does anyone know if there is a site like this for growing kiddos? My kids are furious with me because I won't let them have an account on here... LOL They view logging food and exercise as a privilage.
I understand why the age limits are in place here, because there is already SO much pressure on my second grader to fit into pencil-thin clothes (not reasonable pressure, as he's at 13% bodyfat... and NOT because I don't feed him, believe me!), but I would love to find a place where the nutritional needs of growing kiddos is combined with the encouragement of peers and they can learn about good eating choices and fitness!
If anyone has heard of something like this, please PLEASE tell me where to find it! Thanks! =D

Or maybe I could just make my kids accounts and modify their goals to the USDA recommendations... maybe that's the way to go. I'll have to look at the terms and conditions again... Any MODS want to comment??:huh:0

I am a bit torn on this one. My 6yo Daughter is chunking up and it's sticking around longer than the usual "grow out/grow up" routine. I'd love for her to learn what foods are good for her and eat more for fuel than for pleasure, but she's 6 and we're just doing the red light, yellow light, green light foods for now. It's rough. I don't want to pressure her or make her hate her body. There are plenty of influences and distractions for that. I just want her to have a healthy relationship with food and make good choices. I'm starting with training myself to do that and because I have control over most of what she eats, I know she's getting good stuff with me. I've got her in sports, so she's more active than some, but I'm going to up that a bit this summer.
The next step is determining how to get her away from school lunches. I'm actually looking at a charter school for next year so she doesn't have that option. If that doesn't work out, she's getting sack lunch. I swear I get so frustrated everytime I look at the school lunch calendar. Not a single one of those meals is under 1000 cals and they are all junk!
The good news is that all of this is done without her being made oober conscious about it. It's a subtle lifestyle that isn't forced on her, but just made easy and available. I'd really hate to see kids who don't have significant weight or health issues get hyperfocused on nutrition. Good habits and info are critical, but counting calories and logging everything is something that should be reserved for those changing habits, not for those building habits.0 -
I agree that kids shouldn't be pressured, but both me and my hubby log our foods and exercise and our kids want to follow suit. I think it's a good idea not so much for limiting calories as for taking a good look at what's actually IN their meals. They critique my food log as it is... LOL
Not only that but it would give them a tool to talk more food out of me... "Mom, I just burned 365 calories running to the school and back... can I have a granola bar now?" LOL0
