I think my HRM just flaked out.

I just did my current usual workout routine and my HRM estimates me burning about the same amount of calories as usual, however it says my max heartrate was 230...... Yes I was busting my butt but the highest I've ever gone before was about 185 and that was on a particularly energetic day, normally it's closer to 170-175. 230 sounds kind of improbable, right? Is this what happens when the battery starts getting low on a HRM? I've had it since I think August or September, I'd think the battery would be good for longer than that...... Any thoughts?

It's definitely either the battery or you could try washing the strap.
My gf's has finally died after a year but mine hasn't and we work out the same.

Mine whacked out every now and then like that, too. It didn't start doing that until I had it for about three years, though. And when I replaced the battery it did stop.

Maybe yours sat on the shelf for long enough to run the battery down before you bought it? Or, do you use the light feature on it frequently?
  • sometimes if i'm sitting or bending over, the strips lose full contact with my skin and the HR will skyrocket to crazy numbers over 200 BPM.

I don't even know if it has a light feature. LOL I know just enough to operate it and not much more. LMAO So that's a 'no'. ;-) I bought it at Target where they only keep like 2-3 on the shelf at a time, but I don't have any way of knowing how long it was there before I bought it....

I have had it read '00' if it lost contact or wasn't wet enough before, but I've never had a crazy high number like this. Guess I'll just keep an eye on it and see if anything strange happens again.
