Hey!

So a bit of background: I had lost 70lbs prior to finding MFP and got to my goal weight this month last year.
We started trying for a baby - with all the treatments etc, I have gained 20lbs. Signed up for MFP with a goal of 2 lbs per week last week in hopes of getting back to my previous weight before TTC.

So yesterday I found out I am preggers! I have just changed my settings to maintain my current weight, is this correct? I will continue to use MFP to make sure I get the correct amt of calories. Oh yeah I should mention that I pland on adding the extra 300 calories in the second trimester. Is that correct? Is there a way to manually change the calories?

In addition, I was diagnosed with diabetes in 2008 and with the weight loss as of March of last year I was taken off my meds and have normal ranges now. I saw the endo today and he say's I dont have to go on insulin but they are monitoring me and I may have to go on it later.

Any advice would be great. Sorry for the long post. I saw that there are some older posts but could not find anything recent.

Thank you!

Good luck on your journey's (I hope to be back after November 2012)- back to square 1! :-)

I would ask your doctor for the right calorie count for you, then still use MFP to track it. You don't know if what MFP uses for "maintain" calories necessarily means "maintain while growing another person inside you" calories. Congrats on the pregnancy!

Congrats! In the first trimester, you really don't need anything above what it takes to maintain your current weight, and honestly if you get more than mild morning sickness, it will be a struggle to get that. Second and third trimesters you do need more, around 300-400 extra a day, and if you decide to breastfeed, you'll need to continue to eat around 500 extra a day.

I hope you can avoid gd, and it's great that they are monitoring you closely for it. My advice would be to listen to your body, and make sure you always have healthy snacks with you - it makes it so much easier to make the right choices when you have them with you. This helped keep my weight gain under control for both of mine - I gained 50 with my first, 30 being water retention in the last month due to pih/hypertension, and 20 with my second.

Wishing you a very happy, healthy 9 months!

Thank you, I didnt' realize I needed the extra 500 calories for breast feeding. I hope I can still meet my requirements when the ms kick in. Trying to eat smaller meals and not get hungry to keep naseau at bay. Thank you for the well wishes.

yep. im an ante post natal specialist, mainly in exercise but have a general overview for nutrition. for me your plan is sensible. maintaining and 300. make sure youre keeping a healthy diet with all your essential vitis for baby :) also your dr should run through this with you anyway. keep exercise at a light intensity and shorter durations. how exciting. i love babies. youre so lucky congrats :)

oh! that's beautiful! congrats, I don't have anything useful to say coz I haven't been in your shoes, I just went in blind when I was pregnant and came out the other side not so good. I take my hat off to you for doing it the right way for you and baby. I don't know why but I'm so excited for you that you have been able to manage your diabetes so well. One step closer to health is a step closer for baby's health too.

    Enjoy it and congrats again.

Thank you so much I would love some exercise tips (I haven't done any since I found out on Tuesday). I am an exercise junkie mostly bootcamp. But did start the treadmill at 10 incline on speed 3.4 just in case I caught the egg this cycle :-) I have no clue where I need to keep my heart rate under so I am scared to get back on track until I finish my research. Also not sure if I can go to boot camp and modify and what I can or cant do. My instinct say's do what feels right- but I also want to know what limits I have as once the adrenaline kicks in I go full throttle. I am lost in the exercise department at the moment :-(. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks for the warm congrats!

Thank you so much! I appreciate the high five! I am nervous, as we fought hard and tough for this baby :-) And what you said was very useful. It only been a couple of days and I know I am going to have my bad days and its encouraging words like yours that will help me stay on course. I am sorry for your experiences on your end. Hugs! Hugs!
