NO MORE FRIED CHICKEN AND SWEET TEA FOR ME:)

hello-i'm 24, have a 3 year old son, and work at a car dealership...in the south...where it is perfectly acceptable to eat a snickers for breakfast, fried chicken at lunch and 2 burgers at dinner! Hoping to beat out the temptation...we shall see! i've got about 12-15 lbs to lose---already lost about 40 in the last year...and these last few proving to be the hardest!!! Especially with no time or means to really 'work out'...any advice for me-i'd love to hear it!! Thanks.

:drinker: Good Morning!! You will find that the more Healthy Choices you make, the easier it becomes.
Could you take a couple of quick 10 minute walks around the Car Lot during the day. Even short bursts of movement willl start you getting results.

sounds like the no fried foods is going to be a BIG help! & i only drink water...nothing else even appeals to me anymore. might have to trick your body by going 1200 2-3 days/week & 1400 3-4 days/week. keep your metabolism confused!
as far as exercise...you have a little kid...do whatever he does! jump around, run around, just play with him. that's plenty of exercise right there! you got this :)

I understand. I live in SC and work with all guys, it's tough. Feel free to add me. (LOL) Someone just asked if we want to go eat BBQ, or fried pork chops for lunch.

Hey there - I'm also from the south, Alabama...I've found that just eating small portions several times per day works for me. I don't have a lot of time to work out, although I try to get in some cardio at least 3-4 times per week. I lost 31 before signing up on mfp, and have lost 7 since joining at the beginning of January.

You sound a lot like me! Fried foods are my very favorite, and it's SO hard to say no, especially in the south! Sometimes it seems like everybody and their momma is offering you their new fried peanut ball recipe or having you over for barbecue, or sending you a slice of the cheesecake they just made :-)

I am a Louisiana Gal myself, I suggest clean eating. It will help you zap those last few pounds. Invest in Oxygen Magazine and www.toscareno.com she has several books and is a product of what she teaches.

No fried chicken or sweet tea sounds depressing, I would never go without anything. Moderation.

Hooray! Good luck on your weightloss, chicken is too good not to eat; you can still eat it but find healthier ways to cook it as opposed to frying!
  • Haha! Thanks guys!! Great support and great advice!!! I'm in South Carolina here too---my boss just asked if i wanted half his fried okra...um yes!!! no...wait NO!!!! Can't wait to kick this off with my new friends on here:) thanks! (and the idea of walking around the lot...GREAT idea-I can do that!!!)

<3 DOWN HERE WE LIKE OUR CHICKEN FRIED <3
i still eat foods that i love in moderation and not on a weekly basis. i learned dont deprive yourself of foods you love because it makes you crave them more.
m a southern girl too so i love fried foods and sweet tea but with the sweet tea i changed it to green tea and i also like to by fruit/ herbal tea and blend them together with a teaspoon of splenda- takes away the sweet cravings for sweet tea
  • i only eat food that i can buy in the refrigerated sections of the grocery store.. and it has to be natural. i stay out of the center aisles !!!!!! excercise stand up and work on your computer just stepping back and forth instead of sitting down... do some strenght training.. i do squats and lunges while working at my computer.. also use my desk chair to do push-ups etc.... and water bottles filled with water make great arm weights

I'm a Georgia Gal and there aren't to many things that I won't eat if you roll em in flour or cornmeal and throw them in grease..... A friend pork chop fresh out the grease with hot sauce on a piece of bread.....:tongue: How I live to eat that.... !!! I do still enjoy or try to enjoy fried food at times. My problem is that although I want to eat them...the smell of grease makes me ill and I can't get eat it like I used to....

Best of luck getting those final pounds off and being the most Beautiful Southern Belle you can be!

The walks around the lot is a great suggestion. When I worked a desk job, I took my "smoke" breaks to walk around the office park we worked in. It was a great mental break as well as a little dose of sunshine. It helped my mood as well as lose weight.

I would say if you have hit a plateau that you should write down everything to see what habits you have gotten into. It could just be changing something up..... adding/subtracting fat, carbs, sugar, etc. Change up the exercise routine too. Now that it's warmer, getting outside is a welcome treat. I find I will walk longer and faster without the treadmill readouts.

Like someone said, you have to shock your metabolism some by changing things up for a couple of days. Go meatless... add fiber... exercise at a different time in the day... extra water... you might be surprised what little changes can do. My husband and I are thinking about getting bikes this spring so that will really change things up for us.

    Welcome to MFP!

I don't like fried anything any longer, after working in a deli for two years and having to clean out deep fryers every night, haha. I can't even smell oil now without wanting to gag, so I can't relate on the fried chicken thing, but I LOVE me some good sweet tea!
  • really great advice friends-thank you! I will try your tips and hopefully see results soon! I totally cheated at lunch and did a fried chicken salad, which is almost as bad as just fried chicken!!! but here's to hoping my resolve is better tomorrow!!!
