Do the urges ever go away?

So I have been on the journey for 7 months and have done a good job. I am exercising more (gym 5-6 days a week, following a training plan, running etc..) Most days I stick to my eating plan (everyone slip up now and again)...But the urge to eat like I use to has not gone away yet.
I don't crave the same foods (sweets etc), but I want to EAT!!!! I like the way I feel being healthier (less back pain, no more heartburn etc..) but old habits die hard I guess.
I can usually talk myself out of a splurge (I know how hard I have to work at the gym to make up for it), but I just wish that the desire to have the splurge would go away and make it easier on myself.
Any ideas/suggestions, anyone else deal with this?

I've been at it about 3 years now, and it does get better. It never goes away completely, but I feel much more serene about resisting the occasional urges than I used to.
I used to feel like I was white-knuckling through it, and now, when I am thinking of blasting my way through thousands of calories, I am much more likely to remind myself of reasons I'd regret it later, and decide not to.0 -
I have been reducing my portion sizes and I actually felt full up & turned down a bag of crisps the other day, that is virtually unheard of for me. In the past I've always done diets that let me eat free foods to my heart's content which meant that portion sizes were far too large (I can eat way too much pasta!).
Since starting this latest bout of dieting I've been very careful with quantites and for once I am feeling full although I'm only on 1200 cals a day. This is the first time this has happened to me while dieting, Funny that eating a balanced diet at regular intervals actually works!
This does not mean that I don't still crave cakes, sweets, pizza etc but by controlling the portions the need to 'pig out' seems to be (almost) under control! WHOOP! Feels good to admit that to myself, hope some of my rambling helps you.0 -
Thanks so much for the support...it was one of those 'I could eat the shingles off the roof kinda" days.0
