Good Morning everyone! Sorry I started this so late, I honestly forgot it's Tuesday!

Here's the challenge, find one way throughout your normal day to burn extra calories. Not in your normal workouts either. Like taking the stairs, or do lunges down the hall to get that load of laundry. Try to report with what you did to burn a couple extra calories.

Don't worry, I'll have a quote in a minute....

Park in the parking spot the furthest away from the building. Rock back and forth in your chair.

Hey all. I'm down 2 more pounds, and very happy-but still really sick. I'm pretty sure that has something to do with me losing this week. I was put on antibiotics yesterday, and it made me feel a lot better within the last 24 hours, but I still have so much congestion in my head that my teeth hurt!!! It's such a weird feeling!

My goal for this week is to walk to my mom's house instead of drive at least 3 times this week. She lives pretty close by-about 1/2 a mile, so it's something that I can do with my girls this weekend if I put my youngest in a stroller... The weather is getting nice enought up here in Alaska to do it!!!

weigh in: 156.8! Down 3.2 in 2 weeks... and my scale came today so I will be able to weigh in now and track my progress reliably!! hooray! it also measures body fat, and mine is at the cusp of "moderate" and "high", so i have work to do there... this semester ends in a week and then i will have tons of time to work out!!

as for this challenge... i am drawing a blank. hmmmmm... i always avoid these stairs on my campus and take the less steep hill... so i guess i could walk up the stairs instead? does that count? there are no elevators on my campus, so i always have to take the stairs inside. oh, also if i have to go to the subway, i will walk (its about a mile) instead of taking the bus!

    go team!

Morning Ladies! I am feeling much better now that the worst of my TOM is behind me. I have been chugging water like crazy which has helped the bloating. When I weighed in this morning, I was only 139 - that is still up from last week but due in large part to my current condition.

I hope you all are having a great day!

Hi there! I am down 1 lbs this week. I am at 182, which I am stoked about but I really want the scale to say 180 now that I am so close. It is all in my head. Anyway as for the challenge, I am not sure what I could do. I live on the second floor so I must always walk up and down the step to my house and to do laundry. I also share a car with my hubby so on average I walk like 6 miles a day around post to the store, gym and to take my daughter to and from school. I will keep thinking though.

Welcome All New Members! I have been slacking on my posting recently. I am just so busy with spring fever and two kids and my hubby being home.

Also we are officially going home to MD for 21 days in the summer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so excited and so scared at the same time. I can go to the gym while there it is just finding the motivation. I also figure I can go for long walks or runs to burn some calories. My biggest fear is that I LOVE food and I have not had a good American meal in a year and a half. I want Outback, and Panera, and China Garden, and Pizza Hut, and Arby's, and Roy Rogers, and Red Lobster, and Maryland Crabs, and TGIF, and Waffle house and so much more I am sure I could make a list like 3 times this long. Ahh what am I going to do?

Ariel, I did not know you were getting your degree in Social work! I was getting my Bachlors in social work and I had to switch it to psychology cause they don't to undergrad Social work degree's online. I only had 2 semesters left I was kinda pissed. Anyway what do you want to do? I want to work with adolescent addictions.

My goal for this week is to do a lap around my building every day - I work in a hospital, so a lap around the building would be about 3 blocks....not a whole lot...but it is something extra every day.

I have not budged, except for 2 lbs which go up, then come back down, then go up, then back down.

IDK what is the problem, except maybe it is all the STRESS.

$$$ is super super tight.:grumble: DH is unemployed, we still (STILL!) have not finished paying April's rent, and unemployment insurance has run out. So, ya, I have a LOT of stress. I try to use it to fuel workouts, but it is hard to get motivated after school lets out, all I wanna do is go to sleep.
Looks like we may have to move, so that'll burn a lot of calories, moving furniture and such, right?

Oh my god i have the same fear!!! I live in Bethesda (im in college right now in Boston though) and am going home for the summer!!!! Also, Panera is my absolute FAVORITE. I love so much food at home, I don't know what I'm going to do. Plus here at school I have a gym, track, etc... but at home I have nothing. So scared! We should brave it together! Any ideas on how to get through it?
  • Resa -- hope you feel better. Try not to push yourself too hard, put the energy into getting better. So that way you can actually enjoy the summer!
Christine -- OMG I know kinda what you mean. It's been 5 months since we've been even to a wal-mart, so when it comes to eating out, I"m right there with ya. Maybe you can look at coming back to the states like a challenge to maintain. Don't stress about losing, just enjoy, walk or run like you said, and maintain. You don't want to be so worried about what you can or can't eat that you miss out on having a good time. You've always been good at making good food choices, I"m sure this won't be any different.
Lucky Lep -- I'm sorry sweetie. I know the paycheck to paycheck game all too well. Hubby has been self (and sometimes Un)employed several times. It's hard not knowing when the next paycheck will be there (at least for me cuz I'm a planner, have to have things mapped out). Just remember it hasn't always been this way, and won't be forever. Seriously, if you need anything just send me a message. I'm sure there's some way we can help.:flowerforyou:
  • Oh btw, I'm down 1 pound from last week's gain of 2 pounds. I actually went up about 6 with AF but managed to come back around. So I'm ok with that.
  • hello all sorry Im so late checkin in. Congrats to all the big weight loss today everyone!

My flu has moved into the cold stage so im still not on top of my game yet. Today I did manage to get in a small workout and burn 400 cals. I weighed my self which probably wasnt the best idea seeing as AF is here. I am still stuck at my plateau. I know I really need to amp up the workouts, so Im just going to keep on going and hope for the best. :frown:

My goal this week to burn a few extra cals is to take the pup for a 30 min walk everyday in addition to my regular workouts.

  • here is my food for the day.....

coffee with no sugar vanilla creamer, honey bunches of oats with almonds and skim milk, red grapes with straberry cream cheese, apple, tuna casserole, 2 pieces of dark dove promises, and cup and a half of green beans, wax beans, and carrots.

I still have 500 cals left over, which is including my workout cals but I doubt i will be able to eat those seeing as its 11pm. Plus this cold is really getting to me

    Kacee,
Yeah My plan it to not gain while home. If I lose by some freak of nature I will be happy but I am not going to stress over it. As long as I don't come back heavier than I leave then I will be happy. Also I eat out a lot I do just have to make healthy food choices. The big problems is that I will eat out two meals a day a lot of the time. That is the kicker so I am going to try and only eat half of what I order or order from kids meals if I go to fast food. Oh I can not wait for Walmart!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have not shopped at Walmart in a year and a half and probably will not go back to the states for at least 2 years. I have a feeling we will be in debt and all our savings will be gone after this trip. I have a huge list of stuff to buy. Also on a totally side note I am planning my Elizabeth's birthday party. I am so excited, so won't be 1 till June 5th but I like to plan ahead, especially since I have to rely on the mail to bring everything to me. Well Gotta go get my girls ready and go to the gym talk to you all later.

Good morning everyone! Ya'll may remember that I was complainig of knee pain last week - and had decided to take a few days of rest. Well, the pain has not gotten any better. I am sitting here typing wth 2 knees that are very achey - and have been for the majority of the last few days.

I am working on scheduling a visit to the doctor for Monday - my health benefits are not effective until Friday...otherwise I would be going today. In the mean time, I have suspended all physical activity, as I don't want to risk doing anything more serious to my knees.

Guess that means, I have to be very careful with my eating. Anyways, hope ya'll have a good day!

did week 5 day 1 today of the c25k! its going well... but i dont see myself being able to run 2 miles in 20 mins by the end of the week ... has anyone been through this and have suggestions? this week seems like a very quick increase.

i also have been having knee/ankle/shin issues... so i am with you there. i am icing a lot which helps, and am just taking it easy when its not feeling too good (trying to take a day off in between running days)... im hoping once muscle is built up again it will be better. i am very excited for finals to be over so i can dedicate a lot more time to strength training!

anyone have good summery dinner recipes? it is super hot here already and im not in the mood for my soups and chicken dishes anymore.....
  • Christine- Im sure you will do fine when you come home even if it is maintaining that will still be a huge accomplishment :flowerforyou:

Kimlee - im sorry your knees are still hurting, Im not sure if you have tried this yet but when my knees are achy from running outside I do 20 min of yoga and seems to help. That might tide you over til you get to the docs?

Jess- the c25k was a huge jump for me so i did the week over again....unfortunately I then hurt my knee so I am starting over again and am now on wk 3. But it is no big deal if you do one wk twice. It helps to build up that endurance.

Ari- Great job with holding back, this is our new lifestyle so you should be very proud of yourself!

Im off to do my goal for the wk, walk the pup for 30 min, then off to the gym. SHould be interesting seeing as my nose is runnning like crazy.....stupid cold

I'll check in later gals when im at work
  • Ok so first I have a question, is the couch 2 5K a video program or what? Is it just a set schedule of when to do what in order to build up to the 5K? The reason why I'm asking is because I was wondering if that too could be a challenge. Could we set a day a while from now and work toward it and everyone do a 5K on the same day? Walk/Run whatever. Let me know what you guys think about it.

BTW -- my fulfillment of the challenge yesterday was I moved furniture yesterday (if you could see my hubby's homemade solid wood entertainment center you'd know how hard it was, I've never been able to move it by myself before). I also did various lunges etc around the house to get from point A to point B. Today I think I'll do speed raking of my lawn, instead of using the 4 wheeler to drag it. We'll see how it goes.
  • Kacee- here is the link for the couch 2 5 k.... http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml

There is a schedule, there also is a podcast for your ipod but since im ipod slow I just follow the schedule. I would love to do it with everyone as a challenge. Take a look and see what you thiink

I would love that! My goal is June 1 to be done, but it would be really fun to do it as a challenge... and helpful because we could as questions and get advice from people who are farther along. I vote yes!

I didn't check in yesterday! oops! Anyway, loving this week's challenge. I burned extra calories yesterday because I was moving offices from one end to the other and had a lot of back and forths carrying tonnes of client files! Figured I burned about 300 cals an hour! That's a lot better than the usual sit and my desk all day job!

Unfortunately, the scale today shows a gain in 4 lbs. That's okay though because AF is still not here (if my man wasn't fixed I'd be excited... well... there still is that 1% chance right? .... nah!)

We're starting up another challenge at work beginning this Friday. So weigh ins will take place every Friday and I'm volunteering my scale so I will have to check in with everyone on Fridays. I think I'm going to set up my goals on MFP to reflect the next 8 week challenge at work. I have to be realistic but still optimistic especially with my new 30 day shred!

Have a happy week everyone!

    Hi Ari!
Hey everyone! I've been on antibiotics for 3 days now, and I'm almost feeling normal! Okay, not quite, but getting there! I'm playing volleyball tonight, and doing P90X tonight. I'm trying to catch up to my husband! Hope everyone is doing well!
  • Hello Ari!

GLad to hear you are feeling better Resa

I look like rudolph on the otherhand  Stupid stupid cold. After my walk with the pup today and a trip to the bank I was exhausted :grumble: So no run for me today

Here's to hoping this cold subsides tomorrow :drinker:

    Hello everyone!

Resa - Glad to hear that you are feeling better.

Hope - Sorry that you are still under the weather....feel better soon.

It is another beautiful day here - so I am hoping that I will be able to spend part of the afternoon working in my gardens. The knees aren't hurting as severely today, which tempts me to work out, but I know that if I do then it will be back to pain tomorrow. Sigh - who would have ever thought I would miss exercise. Lol!
