Hey Guys,

Just thought MFP people would be interested in this programme shown on BBC this week. (might not work outside UK)

The program isn't so much about weight loss, as what sort of exercise can benefit people. It's given me a huge insight into how I plan to train for my half marathon and really does big up the HIIT as a way to increase fitness levels. (Again, there is not much to do about weight loss in this program, I know there's some dispute as to whether low intensity is better/worse than high intensity for losing weight).

To piggy back onto that promotion of HIIT, I gotta vouch for it. Just to preface, I'm not even looking at the weight loss, but just my physical fitness and endurance has dramatically increased since beginning to incorporate HIIT into my workouts. Before I stared doing it, I could barely run at 7mph for 30 seconds, it was like a sprint to me. Now I do a steady 2 minutes on, 2 minutes off and it's starting to feel like it's not really that fast (keep in mind I'm not in as good of shape as many of you other runners). I've noticed that my long runs (10 miles-ish) are easier since beginning to do HIIT in place of my standard short runs. I love it!

In football training we do intervals, like shuttle runs and beep test type exercises. And I have to say, it is hard, and now i've seen this program, I'm gonna start incorporating it into my workout.

We have to do this in Rugby but with weights and sprint run tests. Best thing is a spark of adrenaline can bring out a heck of endorphines; which is never a bad thing.
