Food and Your Taste

Everything is learned. I read here so many questions about how to add taste into things that are bland. But, food is supposed to be bland. The taste of food comes from being poor, way back in the old days, and adding fat and things to bulk it up.

Get used to eating things as they are. Stop adding butter, salt, and things like that. It gross stuff if you think about it. Start eating egg whites on plain toast. Start eating things that are bland. Your tast buds will adjust.

Taste is learned. It is not a natural thing. You like what you like because that's what you've been taught to like, for the most part.

Learn to eat bland food. I cut out Mayo in my early 20's. I've slowly added things to that list. I've cut out butter, whole milk, salt, and other stuff. When I see people cook with butter, it just freaks me out. people cook and eat without even thinking about what they are doing or why.

Start eating and appreciating how food tastes naturally. Just get into it, like a little project. You will be surprised at how you will change. Now, when I eat something fatty drenched in butter, it tastes so rich to me that I can't eat it. Or, if I do, I get sick.

I went to a party a few weeks ago, and I was drinking. When I drink, my inhibitions go way down, and I'll eat like crazy. Well, I did that with all this food. The next day was not pretty. I was in the bathroom half the day with the runs. Sorry, but true. I can't eat what normal people eat all the time. But, I'm telling you, that's the difference. I can actually eat more food than them and stay in good shape, becasue for the most part, I've cut the crap out of my diet and I eat clean food, mostly.

Try it. Challenge yourself. Remember, your taste is learned. Relearn how to enjoy "bland" food. Bland food is actually nto bland. It doesn have taste, you're just used to masking that taste with strong flavors and fat.

I agree with cutting down on those "extra" "empty" calories, but the food doesn't have to be bland! Spices are some of the strongest antioxidants out there.

perfection is not required! just excellence!!! That's what I tell my students! I don't expect perfection, I expect excellence!
