Calorie burn and heart rate slowing down?

I've noticed in the past week or so that I'm not being able to get my heart rate as high with the same amount of effort, and, therefore, my calorie burn is lower and lower. What gives? I knew that at some point this happened, but I've only been exercising for 2 months. That seems really soon.

I'm varying my exercise, so I don't think my body is getting used to one exercise routine. I'm frustrated!

I did a 45 minute spin class tonight. Previously, my HR stayed in the 160s most of the class and I would even get up to the 170s. Tonight I struggled to max out in the mid-160s.

Intensity plays a large part. When I go with a lower level on my stationary bike my heart rate doesn't get super high, when I up the level and push myself hard my average heart rate is 165 with the highest rate of usually around 180.

For example, when I was doing an hour on level 7 I would get a little over 600 calories burnt, now I'm on level 8 and get a little over 700 calories burnt in an hour.

Congratulations! You're getting more fit. Your body doesn't have to work as hard as it did 2 months ago, so your heart rate goes down and your calorie burn goes down. Isn't that great?!?

I noticed the same thing after about 2 months of working out. I used to burn around 600 calories in a one hour spin class. Now, I'm lucky if I break 500. I ended up changing my workouts to keep my body guessing and adding more strength training.

    Good luck!!
