Got this deal through my email today, and I'm wondering what'ss the general consensus on more sophisticated scales like these?

http://cudo.com.au/nationwide-offers/its-a-set-of-digital-scales-with-built-in-body-analyser-for-39/?utm_source=ExactTarget&utm_medium=Nationwide-offers_email&utm_campaign=Email_Nationwide-offers_01032012&cmp=edm:dly:nat:Female:her:cta:49787:120302:11:30810099

The ones I have at the moment are a bit tempermental (give me about 2-3 variations of my weight, depending how I step on), so for that price I'd consider buying them - but only if its worth paying for all those bells and whistles.

Let me know what you all think :flowerforyou:

  • I have a similar scale, manufactured under a different brand, and I love it. It's proved very accurate and consistant :) The BMI measure isn't to be trusted, but if you're careful to measure under the same conditions (hydration, etc) it can be useful to compare against itself.

I have a good high teck set and other than the fact they are reliable for the weigh in's - the rest is a load of .....

Mine give a body fat percentage... Ive lost 28kgs - and apparently I've only changed 1.5% in this time. WHAT! No way! In fact, the only time this changed was when I changed my age in the programming! It also tracks water and bone mass and something else - but I honestly dont look at it anymore. Your BMI you can get from here,

But - I can jump on 3 times in a row and get the same recorded weight - like I said - thats the only good thing.

I have a really similar scale, not sure of the brand. I used all that extra stuff for about a week. Now I just use the weight part :) So it's useful if you think you will actually use it! Now you're making me think i should use the other features on mine, lol

What is the purpose of knowing the exact OUNCE you weigh? It's all relative, anyway. If you're 5,000 feet higher in elevation, you weigh something like 1/4 lb. less. If you grew up on Jupiter's moon, Europa, you'd weigh 3 lbs. less than you do if you live in San Diego, CA, USA, Earth. Anyway...you get me.

I'm content to know that, per the Taylor website, digital bathroom scales are accurate to within 2 lbs.

    Your weight fluctuates daily anyway.

Scales are just a tool for measuring this arbitrary thing humans decided they care about. That's my perspective on it, anyway.

Real life doesn't care if you weigh 140.1 or 139.8. Care about real stuff. :)

I spoke to a kinesiologist at work and he said those scales are useless unless you measure at exactly (and he meant exactly as in down to the same size bowel movement and drops of water in your body) the same everything, and even then it cannot be relied on. He said the best way to measure body fat is the pinch test (well, submersion but nobody will do that). I have one of these scales myself and have noticed a relative change in body fat, bone density and all the other stuff it claims to measure in all my weight loss, but whether that number is right or not, no idea.

A scale is meant to measure mass.

Oh I know, I'm not into knnowing exact to the gram, but its a little irritating when It goes from 62.0 - 61.2 - 62.4 - 61.6kg each time I step on in a row.
It'd be nice to have a bit more consistency on a day-to-day basis: 1 kg difference is pretty big, in my opinion.

I'm also working to tone up rather than necesarily lose weight so if I could know that my muscle percentage / body fat percentage are changing (yes, I do use tape measures as it is), it'd be nice motivation :)
