Advair Side effect

I've been on Advair for a little over a month. I had a really bad cold last week. On Tuesday I noticed white spots all over the roof of my mouth. By yesterday it had spread all over my tongue and it hurts to eat. Since my Dr.'s office was closed my husband made me go to the ER. Turns out I have thrush which is a fairly common side effect of using Advair. Apparently in order to avoid it I am supposed to rinse and spit with salt water after every use of Advair. Rinsing with plain water is sometimes not affective enough to prevent thrush.

This is why I hate pharmacueticals! Far too many side effects to justify the benefits. I WILL NOT continue taking Advair. And now I find out I'll suffer some more side effects from stopping. FABULOUS!

What annoys me more than the fact that eating is brutal because my tongue is a mess is that I was @ the ER until 11. Didn't get home until almost midnight after filling my prescription. That threw off my getting up @ 5 to workout. It's throwing off my day altogether. I'll have to make up the workout tonight. Not gonna miss a single workout during this 90 day challenge. grrrr

I'm sorry that happened to you. Thrush is not too fun. Whoever prescribed the Advair to you should have informed you about rinsing your mouth - that's poor patient practices. I would try to find another doctor, but don't give up on the medication if it helps you. If you're really turned off, try to find an alternative. I'm not sure what medical condition you have (I'm assuming asthma) but not treating it could be worse than the thrush.

Thanks for the reply. I'm just frustrated and in pain. I'm pushing thru it to make sure I'm eating what I need, but MAN does it hurt! I'm MORE angry that I'm reading another side effect is elevated blood pressure. In the SAME EXACT visit that my doc prescribed the Advair, she was concerned about my BP being to high. It had been high the last 3 visits in a year (2 of which I was sick with bronchitis) I'm 33, not terribly overweight, don't drink or smoke. I'm 5'2" and my highest weight was 139. I'm eating excellently and excercising and my BP last night was 150/86. That's INSANE to me! Why would my doc specifically say Advair is ok but be concerned about my BP.

    Sorry....rant over. Grrrrr.:grumble:

I am on my third round of thrush this year and I'm fed up. I rinse and rinse and gargle and spit and rinse more after I take the Advair and I still get thrush. I think I'm going to go to my Dr. and ask for a different asthma medication. For effectiveness, the Advair controls my mild asthma very well, but it's not worth it. I have taken two Diflucan tabs and am on second bottle of Nystatin to combat the thrush and I feel like it is not making a dent!
