Hi! i've been consistantly using this site, as well as exercising for about a month and its working out pretty good for me! I can usually get my exercise for the day and I go on feeling great the rest of the day! I feel no need for Red Bulls or caffeine pills to get me through the day. My day usually starts around 4:30am and I head to the gym for about an hour, then i head off to work for the next 8hours of my day, I work with truly amazing people (except my boss that is lol) and when i get home around 4:30pm I still have a lot of energy left over to take my dog out for his walk/run do some cleaning and cook dinner and my day finally ends between 10-11pm every single day! Well today i just did not have the strength to get up not just today this whole week i have struggled to get up lol I usually take off saturday and sunday from working out.

My question is what is an ideal workout schedule? and what if i skip an extra day during the week will this affect me greatly??? I told myself it was ok, i need to let my body breathe after working out everyday, but i feel like i'm just making excuses for myself =(

Help! =/

Take some time off during the week if you need to. I usually take the weekend off too. As long as I can get my long run in and average around 150 minutes of exercise a week. It's all good. Hope this helps.

Rest days are a necessity, IMO.

If you never feel like you need one, you're probably not working hard enough.
  • There isn't really an ideal workout schedule that will work for everyone -- we're all different.

That being said, you should listen to your body. If you feel super tired or like you need more sleep, then you need a rest day. But you have to be careful about letting that turn into an excuse not to workout.

Get plenty of rest -- sleep and recovery time is just as important as your time in the gym.

I think your problem may also have something to do with sleep. if you are only sleeping form 11-4:00 you are not giving your body enough sleep to recover which is important. I would try to go to sleep earlier or go to the gym after work.

There isn't a ideal workout schedule.. Listen to your body.. On good weeks I go 7 days a week, sometimes I feel so worn out and tired I can barely do 4

As the others have said rest days are important.

You mentioned heading to the gym pretty much every day before work, are you doing strength on successive days? If so you may not be allowing yourself sufficient recovery time - it almost sounds like you're overtraining, fatigue is cumulative.

I try to alternate cardio and strength days but listen to your body, if it's telling you to take a day or two off you're not going to lose a lot of fitness in fact you'll probably be a lot more enthusiastic during your next workout.

^^^ This! 5.5 hours sleep a night is not enough.
  • 5.5 hrs of sleep is a huge gain for me!! there were days that i found myself sleeping 3 maybe 4 (major family crisis in my life) i was depressed for a bit and i guess i am pushing myself too hard i tried to channel all that depression into my workouts and for some reason my body crashed last night i could not get up off the bed after i worked out all i did this week was cardio so i didnt think it was too much but i completly crashed. i guess i will be taking a day off during the week if i need to

    Thanks!! =))
