i am shooting for 1400 calories a day veggies, fruit and whole wheat pastas/breads and i work out for 40 minutes at least 3 times a week, the scale has not budged in months!! and the measurements are the exact same when i started on here about 8 months ago or more..
had my thyroid checked, its all good...
i am 5'4'' and 137 just need to lose the last 5 pounds to feel good about myself again..
would it help if i ate the extra calories from excercise?

Don't fret.....sometimes it takes completely changing your exercise routine. Even if you are doing something different each the 3 days you exercise you need to do something completely different to throw your body into "shock" so to speak. It can get you over the 5 lb hump. Believe it or not your body can get used to exercise and it doesn't have to work as hard at it. Try tennis or hiking or jazzercise...something you don;t ever do and see if that breaks the plateau for you! Good luck I know you can do i:flowerforyou: t!!!!!!!!!!!!!0

Yes. Your calorie deficit works best when you're refueling your muscles on the days you work out.0 -
5 pounds? try restricting the carbs, reducing your calories to 1260, you are 1 inch shorter than me so your calorie count should be about like mine. that gives me a gradual constant weight loss. All the pasta might not be your friend.0

Up your exercise frequency and intensity. Do stregth training!!! This is the main thing that will change your shape!!! As ghanie will attest, I highly recommend an intense program like P90X!!!
And up your cals if you increase you workout!!:drinker:0 -
Switch up your workouts and cut the carbs. What proteins are you eating? Are your percentage of carbs higher than your protein intake? if so, you will need to tweak your percentage.
Maybe you can shock your body and work out for an hour instead of 40 min. Your body is used to your routine and is at a comfortable state so you have to give it a real shock!0 -
by the way ....cute pugs!0

I'd say you'd need to add more protein, dietary fat and lay off the bread. Refined sugars and starches keep blood sugars up and don't fill you up. Healthy fat and protein aid in body recovery and muscle development. I use a 30% fat 30% protein and 40% carb (no sugar/bread) and I've lost 34 lbs. since Jan.
Good luck and I know frustration. I am forced to lay off the gym due to injuries and I have to force myself to eat. I know I need to fuel the body for recovery, but I'm sure not into eating.
Hope the best for you!:flowerforyou:0 -
thanks everybody for the tips.. i was in an auto accident 4 years ago and puton 15 pounds. cant lose that last 5...
i will start watching protein intake and try to up theexcercise. i have permanent arm injuries (dominent arm) from the accident, so tennis is out, but will ask the gym trainer for a pumped up plan!0 -

I just want to start by saying you shouldnt have to loose five pounds to feel good about yourself!!! I know it helps with confidence but please know who you are and cheris yourself not matter what weight your at!! I agree with every one change it up it realy helps. Less carbs can help but if u intend to add them back in or go back to the amounts your currently eating know that youll see the scale possibly increase also. I would also try to drink 2 glasses or more of water on top of what you drink daily.0

OK..... I am just getting back into exercise after a very long time.... I started with a walk yesterday only 38 minutes at a good clip....my knee is so swollen this morning and my back aches.... how am I to continue? Should I push though it or am I crazy not to rest it? Hard to know what to do cause I want to continue but I am afraid I will make things worse and have to stay off my knee longer if I don't. Any advice??0

Alternate ice and heat on the knee, Tylenol to help with the swelling and back and maybe start a little slower next time you go out. Maybe try for 15 mins. and go a little slower, if you still swell up, try 10 minutes. When you find what your body can tolerate, go for that, then maybe try 2 times a day. Then gradually increase, by a couple of minutes or so a week. As your body adjusts to the activity and gets stronger you shouldn't see those kind of symptoms.
If you never find a point where you do not have swelling and pain, maybe look into a recumbant bike. I bet you could find a used one at a garage sale or on e-bay or whatever. That would probably help also.
:flowerforyou:
Actually Ibuprophen would probably help more with the swelling than Tylenol - so Motrin or generic Ibuprophren if you have it. My bad! Forgot which was an nsaid!0
