Not understanding my macros

I have set a daily goal of 1350 calories: 152 carbs, 38 fat, and 101 protein.
(152 + 101) x 4 = 1012
(38 x 9) = 342
1012 + 342 = 1354. Ok, close enough, just remove a single gram of carbs or protein and viola, 1350.

After eating breakfast, I have 1015 calories remaining: 112 carbs, 29 fat, and 60 protein.
(112 + 60) x 4 = 688
(29 x 9) = 261
688 + 261 = 949. Woah, 949 does not equal 1015.

So what's with the discrepancy? If I eat my macros, I'm being shorted 66 calories. If I eat my calories, I end up going over my macros. Can anyone help me figure out what's going on here? Am I missing something?

  • Dont worry about the discrepancy it seems to me like everything looks good.

I still need some help on this, if anyone is able to give some insight. I opened my diary. All this week my macro count and my calories just haven't matched up. Especially today... 17 calories left, yet when you add the macros I've actually eaten 140 calories over?

The food entries are mostly input by the members here, with all their own agendas and data-entry errors.

You can edit any errors you see in the food data, but if you don't check carefully, you will have those discrepancies.

Some people don't even enter half the stuff on the labels, some enter it wrong, some change them to suit their needs. Once you edit a food, it will go in your "MY FOOD" list and you will know it is correct.

Just chill. Relax into the programme. You don't need to be that accurate - some days less, some days more. Enjoy the journey!

yeah I've noticed some people logged foods as MUCH lower in calories than what they actually are. somewhat annoying.

According to my calculations you have eaten 405 calories in your 1st meal:

    9gm fat (9*9) = 81
    41 gm protein + 40gm carb ( 41*4+40*4) =324

1350-405 = 945 calories left (plus the extra 4 in your original calculation = 949)

About 30 minutes after I posted that, I added to my breakfast (so now I feel silly). Also I changed my calorie goal from 1350 to 1450 today.

Calorie-wise, I know it's correct. I just keep getting frustrated with the macros never adding up! I didn't know about the "MY FOOD" list, I'll have to start going through everything in my kitchen to make sure it's 100% accurate according to the label.

When it comes to eating at restaurants or something, and there's no nutrition menu, I tend to go with one of the higher calorie counts on MFP. But when it comes to stuff in my kitchen that I usually, regularly eat, and things aren't adding up... that's the annoying part for me!
