I'm going to a Mexican restaurant for a work related dinner and I'm wondering if anyone has a suggestions for a healthy(ish) choice. My only stipulation is that I don't like ground beef but chicken, steak, vegetarian, etc, is all good with me.

I really appreciate any thoughts you have!!

  • I get shredded chicken tacos on corn tortillas, not fried, no oils used at all. Cheese or no cheese, depending on how many calories you have. I load the tacos with tons of pico and salsa. :)

I tend to make lots of Mexican soups as low-fat options, but that may not be as satisfying when going out... Maybe a taco salad and go light on the beans and rice and sour cream?
  • Fajitas. Ask them to go lite on the oil if they don't grill the meat. Then you can add the toppings or use the tortillas as your diet for that day allows.
  • I would also try to have a broth soup before leaving home so you don't arrive starving. Those chips and salsa are just too tempting!

My man and I go out for Mexican food all the time, and I always get the shredded chicken taco salad. Some of them come in the deep fried taco-shell like bowls, and sometimes it comes with tortillas... I skip on both, and ask for a side of beans and salsa instead. I usually pour the beans and salsa over my salad and mix everything up and eat it that way... mmmm... sounds so good right now!!!!

How many ripped Mexicans do you see? Nothing at a Mexican restaurant is ideal or balanced.

-If your worried about the chip basket, decide in advance exactly how many you will have, and stick to that number.
-Look for dishes that are mainly just a protein and vegetables.
-Watch out for dishes with refried beans, guacamole, sauces, and cheese.
-Don't be afraid to ask for simple changes to be made to a dish (chicken instead of beef, no cheese, etc).

    Enjoy your night out!
