barcode scan or digits-entry on web screens

On the Android application for MyFitnessPal, it allows the camera to scan for the product barcode on the packaging. Is it possible to "read" from a stored image on the computer for web screen processing? What about typing the numbers under the "zebra stripes" that the phone processing uses to look up the product anyway?

I just looked up a barcode on the computer and it worked. For the number deal I don't see anywhere to type in a number.

Which. Reading from a stored image, or typing in the bar code? I can't imagine how a stored image would work.

Where Is the help topic or set of instructions to show where online to do that?
I don't want to scan by phone from screen image, just use computer only.
