Twenty-seven and lots of weight to go

Hey all,

So, my name's Melanie, and I have 60lbs to lose. It's funny... saying that on internet doesn't seem so bad, but saying out loud to myself or to friends and family always is a lot harder and embarassing to say.

I joined this site because of a friend of mine, but I kind of see it as a forum to meet people who are going through the same struggle as me, even if the challenge itself is different for everyone. Erevy one has tips and tool, struggles and triumphs. My story is simple: I've always been overweight, and I actually have no idea what it's like to feel comfortable in my own skin.

So, when I turned 27 yesterday, I decided to make it my challenge to get healthy. Yes I have a goal weight, but it's not my main priority. I just want to develop healthy life habits, and let my body follow. I have no time limit, either. I just want to be healthy, happy and comfortable in my own skin.

So, if you want to be part of my virtual support group, feel free to add me... it's always good to know you've got people to talk to and encourage you, even if I might never meet any of you.

You can also read my perspective of the weight loss question on my blog: ''It Ain't Over 'til the Fat Lady Thins''.

Thanks for reading,
Melanie

  • it is true....it is a lot easier online as it is in person. I could NEVER tell my family or friends what I weigh...and gosh if my boyfriend knew....Id be MORTIFIED. i'm thankful for a place where i can do that! and I feel the same way about the virtual group...it feels good to talk to people completely removed from my personal situation! Good Luck to you! =)

I'll be 26 in just a few months and also have around 50lbs that I'd like to loose. I lost about 75lbs in a very short amount of time when I was in my teens/early twenties but it didn't stick and I think it had to do with loosing too quickly and setting unrealistic expectations. I'm in the same boat of really just trying to be healthier. I had started out at 1,200 calories on here and lost 14lbs in the first month but I've been sliding off track over the last few days and I think it's because that calorie goal is so difficult to stick too, so I just upped it to 1600. A bunch of friends from work all started out at the same time but I'm the only one logging in anymore so could definitely benefit from a 'virtual' support network.

The girls that have replied to this post all seem to be in similar boats, I'd add you all except I can't figure out how =). Please feel free to add me if any of you are interested.

    Thanks!
