Im having a hard time working out. This is my last baby, I want to nurse her for a year, like I did the rest of my kids. The problem is that, when I work out I seem to loose my milk supply. Also, I have heard that if you loose weight while nursing it can put toxins into your milk. I dont want to take that chance! I'm just wondering if I should wait to start trying to get the weight off, until I'm done nursing? I have so much weight to loose. I don't want to gain more. I don't know.... Im just scared not sure what to do.

well, nursing is a great calorie burner as well ;) If the alternative is losing your supply, I think that scaling back your working out so that it isn't impacted and your baby still gets what it needs from you is the best choice--as in the choice that you might not feel bad looking back upon. Think about how you will feel a few years from now: better about putting off heavy workouts and wearing a smaller jean size a few months sooner, or being able to nurse your baby and have that great experience (not to mention providing the 'liquid gold' of breast milk and saving the hassle of and money on formula.) Speaking as someone who is missing that baby phase, it really is true: they are only little for such a short time. Enjoy the time with your last baby.

oh...and look at Kellymom.com to see if there are any new tips on how to increase your supply while working out. It may be as simple as upping your protein or taking a simple supplement like brewer's yeast (both worked really well for me when i needed to boost it up a bit)
  • hi there! i have a gorgeous little 2 month old baby boy so i can really relate! its so hard to know what to do and what not to do..!
i gained 16kgs (37lbs) during pregnancy and so far have lost 12kgs, so 4 more to go! i put most of my weight loss down to the actual breastfeeding itself, makng sure im eating healthy, unprocessed foods as much as possible and going for walks.
it really depends how much you want to lose and how much longer you are breastfeeding for, but my suggestion would be to cut out as much softdrink, caffeine (if youre drinking it), and processed foods as you can. im not a great cook and find it a bit tedious to keep finding recipes so we eat mostly chicken breast or fish and veggies, pasta or rice.
then just walking even 30mins a day or dancing round the house while you clean! you'll be dropping dress sizes in no time, without compromising your milk :)
Plus, you can try things like having a hot bath and then expressing, having a glass of low cal beer or expressing more often.

Thanks so much! you made me cry.... I will look at that web sight for sure. I have been feeling so much pressure to get this weight off that Im forgetting to just relax and enjoy this sweet baby. I will have the rest of my life to get thin. My baby is growing so fast. I can be careful with what I eat, and save the hard workouts for after. Thanks again! :)

My baby is 4 months old so I have a ways to go. I dont drink coffee or soft drinks, or anything like that I love waterso thats my drink of choice. This is my 4th child so I try to cook healthy. I do love sweets but homemade. I think my main problem is big portions. I grew up with 6 brothers and tried to eat like the boys. lol... so MFP is helping me see how much I really eat, Yikes it's been a real eye opener.
