Your core muscles ARE important..............

Who would have thought!!
The importance of building your core! I attended a step class yesterday at the gym and saw that there was a nice new black shinny step, so I grabbed that one. Well that wasn't smart because while doing "jump rope" and putting my heels on the step I flew backwards because my heel caught on the rivets in that brand new bench! Needless to say I did not hurt anything major and was able to continue the class! The girl next to me said that when my butt hit the ground my whole body crunched up and protected my head. If not for my core muscles engaging my head would have hit the ground pretty hard!! Sooo even though I can't see them very well yet, I know they're there!!

I'm glad you didn't get injured. I agree with you that core muscles are important. Exercising those core muscles may help prevent back problems. Well, that's what I've been told.0

agreed, I've got lower back problems and my chiro has given me exercises for it - and when I do my wii fitness coach workouts with focus on the core it comes up with exactly the same exercises
Not to mention it's good for posture, which in itself makes you look thinner cos you stand upright and hold the belly in!

Your core helps or stabilizes just about every movement you make. Very important0

Since I started doing more squats, I have found that my range of motion in my midsection has improved. While at work, I caught myself doing a step back and then pivoting in one fluid motion. I have never done that before. Squats, deadlfits and crunches are all good for improving your core strength and increasing your range of motion.0
