I was wondering what foods you guys eat that are high in iron? I just found out that I am pre-anemic and need to up my iron intake.

Kangaroo if you can get it.
Legumes/lentils (are lentils a type of legume?).
    Green leafy vegetables (e.g. spinach).
    Eggplant.

If you're increasing the amount of iron in your body, you might need to up the amount of fibre going in too, as upping iron can make it harder to .. you know, go.

lean red meat. Never had kangaroo as someone else suggested, but I find buffalo and ostrich fairly good and rather lean. Otherwise I go to the butcher and get a lean cut of grass fed beef, it's leaner (and more flavorful in my opinion) than the regular grocery store fare.

Eggplant is good. Broccoli, spinach, kale, chard...really any heavier green leaf veg.

Can't stomach liver myself, but it's loaded with iron.

Also look at your Vitamin C intake, as it's supposed to help in absorbing iron.

Try eating Cream of Wheat hot cereal several times a week - very high in iron & provides 45% of the recommended daily allowance.

Edited to change the percentage - I thought it was 50%, but I read somewhere it's 45%...still a great source - I always eat it several times a week before i donate blood to get my iron up to their requirements for donors - works every time. :)

Many breakfast cereals are fortified with iron.

My favourite iron-rich foods are quinoa, rolled oats, asparagus, almonds, and cauliflower.

I'm quite anemic, so in addition to the iron in my food, I take a vitamin.

Main thing to remember is vitamin c helps you to absorb iron and calcium blocks it. So while things like breakfast cereal are fortified with iron, eating them with milk cancels that out somewhat. Seaweed and oysters are high in iron. Red meat too.

I definitely am not able to get kangaroo or ostrich. But I can definitely see about getting a lot of those others things. Thanks for the help. :)
