First, you don't have to be Catholic to observe lent, many other Christian religions also observe lent. I believe it ends Easter morning, when ever you get up, it is over.

ha ha.......love the answer, very clever...........and good for you for giving up drinking except for water. That's actually pretty awesome and hard to do, major props for that. (side note: its not usually my intention on backing anyone into a corner by uncomfortable questions........so if I made you feel a little uneasy by asking [cause to some it can be pretty personal], I am sorry it did and if there is ever a time that I do, then you don't have to answer and you can tell me that you wont. No offense taken or anything!)

Lent ends with Good Friday Fast. 1 meal, two smaller not amounting to one full meal if you need the energy. What you choose to give up depends on you. You are supposed to give up something that is keeping you away from giving yourself to God. It could be anything that consumes your time or thoughts. During these 40 days of sacrifice you repent, pray and think upon what Jesus sacrificed for you. You then take that Love manifested by sacrifice and repentance and turn it outward (into action) to be a light to those around you living forgiveness and love.

    Hope that helps.

I'm Catholic. I think it is Good Friday which is April 6th this year. I always give something up until Easter which is April 8th this year. I always give something up for lent. Last year it was soda. The year before that it was chocolate.

I'm not a very good Catholic so I don't know much about it. I was always told that Sundays counted. You couldn't have any of what you gave up between Ash Wednesday and Lent even on Sunday. I think sometimes children were allowed to indulge in what they gave up on Sundays so that it would be easier for them to give something up. Some adult Catholics indulge on Sundays as well but technically you are not supposed to. Some people make their own rules though. My friend decided that St. Patricks day was okay to have what she gave up (chocolate) so she would have tons of chocolate on that day. I always go cold turkey for Lent. Most years I make it.
