Diet and Exercise Help while Traveling

I'm going to be traveling to Brussels, Amsterdam and Hamburg for a total of ten days in a little over a month and I'm terrified about poor eating and no exercise the whole time. I typically eat out two, maybe three times a weeks so I'm not sure how to eat well with all the treats I want to try and the fact I only speak a little German and no French!

Also curious if anyone has ideas for exercise. I've got limited packing space and I'm not sure how to deal with packing workout clothes, or how to get workout in since there isn't any extra room in European hotel rooms or gyms.

Thank you for any tips.

Have fun, enjoy, and work twice as hard when you get back :)

On my recent trip to Cuba, I brought a 2-lb can of protein powder and some protein bars. It really helped to keep me from getting too hungry. I just used the stairs in the hotels for exercise. Have a great trip!

I've been to Europe twice in the last two years, 3 weeks each time. I assume you are going for a vacation? I never found I gained any weight, and I ate out for every meal. Food is typically healthier in Europe and portion size smaller. What I found most helpful, is that because I was sightseeing I walked EVERYWHERE. I figure I was walking 10km a day, at least. I say walk everywhere that you can, but otherwise, have fun. You will be surprised at how well you do I'm sure!

I would think you will be doing a lot more walking there than you would in the states. A lot of people who travel to Europe report that, even though they did not "watch what they ate", they still lost weight. I'm a believer that it has something to do with our food supply, but that's another topic.

I also think you should enjoy yourself and make the most of a great trip. Have a great time! I'm jealous!

For the eating, just make decent choices, like salads with the dressing on the side, complex whole grains, and other healthy nonsense. Don't stress over it either, you're traveling and should enjoy it. You could always look up word in those languages to better communicate those choices too.

As for working out, no girl should go any where without a good pair of comfy yoga pants. And they are probly the best thing you could wear on the plane too. Workout clothes can be folded and rolled into tiny bundles, and sneakers can be squished too. As for room in a hotel room, there are a lot of workout designed for little space and little to no equipment. You only need 30 mins of high heart rate activity to keep up the good work.

For moral of the story: Make healthy choices and don't stress if you can get an hour run in. This is a time to enjoy yourself. Just get back to your routine when you get back. Ten days isn't that long :)

Thanks for the advice. My husband and I are living in Germany currently so I (thankfully) don't have to worry about a very long plane ride and jet lag :) Whenever we have taken trips around Europe we certainly do walk more than a typical day, but it isn't quite the same as my 5K runs.

I know I should just work hard when we get back but he will be deploying for ten months shortly after the return and I'd really like him to have the last memory of me be without the "food baby" I tend to get on our vacations haha!
