Hi Everyone - I'm here due to two things:
1) Weight Loss Competition @Work
2) Co-worker touting the benefits of Counting Calories
I have been fortunate to have had a pretty high metabolism for most of my life but have recently found myself in the category of, "Gradual weight gain having snuck up on me" and now I can definitely benefit from losing around ~20 pounds.
The competition is pretty interesting:
-We had to pay $100 to enter (you have 12 weeks to lost 10% of your current weight). At 6 weeks there is a weigh-in (those that have lost 5% get 30% of the pot (shared among others who met this goal). If you don't meet your goal at the mid mark but hit your final weigh in at 12 weeks you still get your $100 back (if everyone meets the final goal). Those that don't meet either goal end up contributing their $ for the other 'winners'.
So - not really competing *against* each other for 'most weight loss' but the challenge has definitely motivated people to achieve results.
I'm hoping that once I shed the extra weight I'll be in prime position to continue eating healthy and exercising regularly (time will tell).
Nice to meet you all and good luck with all of your goals as well!

18lbs is a very easy goal to meet! I've done it before. Consistency is the key0

That is a cool-sounding competition, and it is supremely motivating to do it with mates, friends, co-workers, etc. Good luck.0
