Can everyone check out this link:

http://www.bmi-calculator.net/body-fat-calculator/body-fat-chart.php

try out the body fat calculator, (lower right hand corner) , I am having a hard time accepting the results of this.
I weigh 115 pounds, have a 5 inch wrist, 7 inch forearm, 35 inch hips, and 25 inch waist.
this thing just told me I was obese!!!!:noway: :noway: :noway:
Well .1% from being obese....
Is this really accurate?????
If so, I am absolutely, DEVASTATED!!!!!
For one that struggles with her weight, and has issues, this is not good for the mind!!!! Now I have it in my head that I am truly overweight.....
Let me know how it turns out for you guys please!!!

i nhavent tried yet but you couldnt be obese. but your percent of body fat could be high . You should not let this bother you.
  • It is REALLY important to remember that this is an estimation of your body fat based on your height and weight, if i were you i'd check out a nationaly accepted tool, just type BMI calculator into google and loads of different ones will come up.

Or, better still, if you are honestly concerned go to your Dr, they have the equipment to do a thorough and honest check!, dont forget these things work by calculating your height and weight, and as a result they dont take into consideration, muscle mass and bone density, a specialist will be able to tell you more...and muscle weighs more than fat.

115lbs, isn't even overweight never mind obese, so it is more than likely that it calculated it wrong! Dont take it to heart!...
  • You are NOT obese! I would die to be as thin as you and with your measurements! Don't let this bother you.

How tall are you? These things always get flaky at the extremes, and if you're very short that could be throwing it off.

It said i am obese also....and I know that I'm not close.
    It doesn't ask for height.

    Don't let it worry you.

I am going to say that there is no way that is accurate. I had my body fat % tested in January, when I still had 20 plus pounds to lose and I was in the high end of healthy. There is no way that after losing another 20 pounds that I am now obese!! I noticed that there was an add for their number 1 diet product right next to my results,

See, that's what I thought, my BMI is within normal range, as well as my waist to hip ratio, that just floored me when I saw obese! This tool does not take into consideration your height also, which could have something to do with it.

There is no way it is accurate. The most accurate way other than the "water test" (I can't remember the right name for it), is to do the calipers--I just had that done and the computer put me 2% off of what I was told. Height certainly needs to be accounted for. Don't worry you are not obese. Just keep working and forget that stupid site!!

We're the same height. If you're obese or even close to it, I may as well be dead. Or a beached whale? I mean, I'm scared to give that thing my measurements! Wonder what moron came up with that...

it's calculating body fat. so, based on your height and weight with relation to your measurements, a formula calculates how much body fat you have. It's not very accurate because everyone stores their fat differently.

i just tried it and I am at 31% body fat which is JUST under obese as well. Last week I tried a different online calculator and it gave me a result of 22% which is considered fit. You can't trust these dumb online things. You're clearly not obese and neither am I.

I think we should find that moron and stuff some cake in his mouth..... (Yeah, I said it, you know it was a man that would torture women like that.... )
  • yeah, there is no way this thing is accurate. everyone here is right: it doesn't take into account your height, and there's no way it can determine your lean muscle percentage from the measurements they ask for.

    don't sweat it, baby doll : )

anyone else notice that they spelled 'cereal' wrong in the ad when it gave you your response? this definitely screams 'legitimate' (not.)

don't use this, they can be up to 20% off. If you want to know your body fat % get a caliper test done, or better yet, hydrostatic test or a Bod Pod, any of these will give you much more accurate results.

There is no way to tell your body fat % from a formula. Two people with the exact same measurements can have a completely different body fat %.

Those online calculators are worthless. And don't get caught up in the BMI. The BMI calculates a number based only on height and weight. It does not account for andy other variables such as age, gender, muscle mass, etc...
