Addicted to working out!!

I have been training to run a half-marathon in May and have developed a love for working out in the meantime! But I'm starting to get self-conscious about it. This week I logged in 690 minutes of working out. A couple of time this week when my exercise minutes posted for everyone to see I removed them before everyone could comment. Is it weird that I'm developing a complex about this?

8349 minutes is 139.15 hours, there are 168 hours in a week and I'm assuming that you sleep and work. Maybe you should double check your math.0

As you're working out for 20 hours a day, I'd say you have a problem!
Assuming that's a typo and you meant over 800 minutes, don't jeopardise your half-marathon and your health through over-training. A peak week for half-marathon training needn't exceed 5 hours (300 minutes) of running a week, plus, say, another hour of cross-training. Build-up weeks and your taper would be considerably less. Make sure your sessions aren't all at high intensity and you take at least one full rest day a week.
The fact you've been removing your posts indicates you know it's a problem.0 -
Wow, now I am thoroughly embarassed! Yes that was a typo!0

That's still more than four hours a day. Apart from how on earth do you find the time, your body doesn't have the chance to repair and benefit from the training. Rest days are when muscle builds and your cardiovascular systems adjusts to new demands. Please find a suitable half-marathon training programme (try Hal Higdon) and stick to it. Otherwise you'll burn yourself out before you even get to the starting line.0

Agreed! Everything in moderation, including exercise. And as another poster said - usually when we are asking if something is a problem, it's because we KNOW it's a problem but are looking for someone to tell us otherwise. There are many excellent half-marathon training programs that are available for free, so try looking into one of those... they even incorporate rest days!Good luck!

It's very possible that you are infact addicted to working out.
When you work out there's crazy chemistry things that happen in your brain that mess about with serotonin and other such things.
Providing that it isn't having a negative impact on your life then it's ok, however i'd say that 4 hours a day is becoming excessive and has the potential to seriously harm your quality of life.
This addiction can be seriously harmful, for instance if you can't eat enough calories to sustain such a level of activity a type of anorexia nervosa can occur called anorexia athletica.
In extreem cases it can kill so kick it while it's young and don't get compulsive love0 -
Holy Sh*# I'm reading the freakin exercise chart wrong and now I'm regretting that I posted this stupid topic...I'm done. End of post. Forget that I posted it.:explode:0
