If eating more protein and fats keep you more satisfied and therefore you eat less, or if you have some sort of metabolic condition that limits your carb intake, then yes.
All diets work the same way, a caloric deficit0 -
If it helps prevent you from overeating, then certainly. I am all for it because its the only way I can manage my weight effectively.0

i only eat low carb but that is what works with my body.
i have lost 50 lbs total (i started losing before i started MFP so my ticker only shows that)
but my main advice that i give people is
1. Protein with every meal
2. at least 25 gm of fiber a day
3. cut out processed foods and try to eat as clean as possible
4. eat every 3 hours! 3 meals and 2-3 snacks per day so your insulin doesnt have high spikes. when insulin surges high you STORE fat!
5. workout!
even after 50 lbs i still have a bit of belly fat. i only have 15 lbs to go but it seems to ALL be in my belly. Figured out it is probably Insulin Resistance so the best program for me is a low carb, higher protein diet. but you can still eat lower carb and have some carbs
Sweet potatoes and oatmeal i add to my diet and i eat low glycemic fruits. like an apple w/ cinnamon (cinnamon helps with blood sugar stabilization) but eat fruit before 3pm and i do not eat any carbs besides veggies at dinner. but that is my plan and what has worked for me. i believe all diets work as long as you can STICK to it!.0 -
Not for me - I'm not doing low carb for the rest of my life. I'm switching out the junky carbs for higher QUALITY carbs.0

I'm tinkering with the ratios, and it's working well for me.
That fat/carb/prtein pie chart is really the only thing I care about, right now. I don't really care about total calories. I'm new to MFP, but I've been successfully losing weight for a few months now.
Someone I respect suggested the following target ratio for me: protein 20-25%, fat 30-35%, carbohydrate 40-45%.
I'm making better choices, and seeing the results. Since joining MFP 5 days ago, my pie chart carb's have been steadily going down, while my protein goes up...because of the choices I'm making to affect those ratios.
I'm insulin resistant, so I have to be extra careful about foods that spike insulin production. Those would be carb's and protein, but simple carb's, in particular. Fat doesn't really spike insulin production, so I don't really care too much about how much fat I'm eating, since my diet is already super-healthy. I've seen it in practice. If I have a lot of simple carb's, I won't lose weight and may even gain. I can go over with mostly fat, and I still lose weight.
So that's mostly how I'm using the app. I'm fine-tuning my fat/carb/protein ratio which...is mostly me reducing carb's and actively seeking out more protein.0 -
I'm torn on this one. Personally I'm a carboholic. I LOVE me some carbs!! But I also know that the types of carbs I eat are empty carlories and will not help me stay full and lose weight! So...lately I've been trying to concentrate on upping my protein vs. limiting my carbs.0

I eat what I want, end of story.0
