HRM is driving me nuts

I have a polar FT7 that has worked beautifully for months and now it's acting up. It's registering my heart rate as 0, then sometimes it does register my heart rate but then halfway through my workout I'll notice it says heart rate 0 again. I bought replacement batteries but can't get the back off the computer part. I always clean it well. Any advice? It's putting such a cramp in my calorie counting :(

    By cleaning it well, do you actually throw it in the washer? If not, then it's prob. not getting that clean.

    Other thoughts are to make sure the strap is tight enough and really wet the sensors on the back of the strap.
