diet through youth: metabolism problem?

Over dinner yesterday my aunt scolded me about the importance of not dieting whatsoever when we are young, because then the body gets used to these cals and once you get older your metabolism slows WAY down and you gain SO much faster than your friends who didnt diet. Then she urged me to eat more from the bread basket hahaha
Any older ladies out there who counted cals/dealt with an ED in their youth and is experiencing a slow metabolism because of it? I am SO curious to know your personal stories!! When did you notice that you were actually putting on weight? Any insight on this is appreciated

watching this.
Though I've heard that the reason your metabolism decreases with age is due to a lack of muscle mass...not sure how true that is though. I think I heard it on the Chalean Extreme dvds.0 -
I'd be interested to know, too.0

OK, I suppose at almost 44 and after two kids I can consider myself and "older lady!"
Your metabolism does decrease with age - for me it started happening around thirty or so...
I did not diet too much when I was younger - worked in law enforcement all my life and was moderately active - I ate like a horse - huge hamburger and fries and Coke in bed after a night shift, then fell over and slept for 8 hours - ate a whole medium pizza...etc etc....
Started picking up weight after both kids - lost "most" of it every time, but it got a lot harder around 35/36....
Long story short - I'm 43, can definitely not eat a whole pizza anymore, and have to work a whole lot harder to get even decent results...
So yeah, enjoy your "young" metabolism while it lasts - do NOT mess it up with unneeded diets and stuff - just educate yourself and live a healthy lifestyle so you can pick up on it and do something if and when changes happens....0 -
I have read from multiple sources that those who have recovered from anorexia require significantly MORE calories than most 'normal' people to maintain their weight, so I'm not sure it's true that dieting has a permenent slowing effect on metabolism.0
