lose and gain.... grrrr

I can only blame myself for losing weight and doing so good and then going to an event, backtracking my progress and gaining my weight back. I need some major support, I just don't have a lot of that in my life right now. I think some of it is emotional eating and boredom eating. What does everyone do to stay on track? I was going strong for about a month and then once I'm around people eating and drinking junk I start in on it too... it makes me want to scream. It's not like I have that much to go either so you would think it would be easy but I just can't stay on track. What are some things to motivate me? Any help would be fabulous!!!

are you exercising too? Make exercise a neccessary part of your day. that way, even if you splurge foodwise at say an event or whatever, you'll know you've at least done something good for your heart, and compensated some of the calories.
I've really come to find that there are ALWAYS healthy options if you choose to seek them out. Even at potlucks and such, SOMEONE always brings fresh fruit or vegetable platters. Ya, you can still have one of those fab homemade desserts, but just have a teeny slice, and pile some fresh strawberries on the side for bulk. you know? Being at an event is NOT a valid excuse to eat badly. it's just not. if you know for a fact that there will be NO healthy options there, eat before you go so you're not hungry and thus not tempted :flowerforyou:0 -
I've been there and it sucks! For me I just had to make the decision to do it for me not to be satisfied with how things were and I had to change for me. It helps to have a goal in mind and a reward for reaching that goal. It also took me a long time but I now try to look at food as fuel and not an event or reward. I also started eating every 3 hours or so that was I was never really hungry. I have had problems with eating out of boredom and when that happens I try to drink water or go do some sort of house hold duty to take my mind off it. Then if I am still hungry I have some fruit or carrots instead of that sweet. To backtrack that though I know that my weakness is chocolate, so instead of depriving myself I bought a bag of individual pieces, and I have two or three pieces a day, it helps with the craving and I know that it is always available. Good luck and keep going you can do it!!

being around people in social situations and eating junk is my biggest hurdle! Lately i have been chopping up raw veggies for when i go to places where there will stuff like chips and dip etc. or i make a fruit tray and just keep that stuff in front of me and keep eating it till i'm really full! Lol, it sounds pathetic but it has been working!0

I'm someone who has lost 100 lbs and gained back 80. When I originally lost the weight it was easy because I lived alone and wasn't around people who were eating. Now I live with someone who has very unhealthy eating habits and it's really hard.
On down days when I come home feeling stressed and stretched to my max the last thing I need is to see her with her bag of chips, or ice cream bowl or whatever...
This week I've been successful in saying no. Put down the chips. Let's go for a walk.
I think your motivation has to come from inside though. There will always be things in life to drag you down. Somehow you have to decide this is important enough not to succumb to temptation. If you constantly seek others to hold you up, I'm not sure if you'll ever succeed.
Maybe it's time to sit down and have a good talk with yourself about your goals and your priorities.
Find the strength within you first, and then you'll find your support. :bigsmile:0 -
The suggestions for avoiding that behavior at events is really helpful but I also think you've got to find your motivation.
Some smaller pants? Try them on each weigh in day to remind you why you're doing what you're doing. Your kids? Put their pictures on the fridge with an inspirational quote that you'll see every day to remind you how much they matter. If you have an event coming up, many people find that much more motivational. I have a deployment homecoming to work towards so I have a solid deadline to keep me on track. Maybe you just need to ask yourself why you really want to lose the weight in the first place and figure out what's important to you. :flowerforyou:0 -
