Downward spiral

I started losing weight in February and I've done well at keeping myself motivated until this week. I’ve lost almost 20 lbs. This week has been a downward spiral from the beginning. I usually go to the gym 3 days a week and walk a mile everyday during my lunch at work. This week, I only managed to go for a walk twice and the gym none at all. My food choices have gotten worse and worse all week. Tonight, I let my husband convince me to get a Chicago style deep-dish pizza. I don’t even want to try to figure out the calories for that! I'm trying to tell myself that tomorrow I will do better. I'm hoping that walking with my sister in the morning will boost my motivation. I do really want this so I don't want this bad phase to continue. Wish me luck!!

is there time left for a walk??
otherwise just drink lots of water. for me, when it feels overwhelming, i try to approach it little by little.

so, healthy breakfast and water. Check. Exercise 10min (dance, jump rope, walk, whatever). Check. More water. Check. etc
Then it's not this huge thing i have to do all at once but rather small goals i can achieve at each given opportunity.
you've done a great job so far, now you just have to stay focused on the prize. :flowerforyou:

btw--congratulations on stopping smoking too!! that's a huge accomplishment in its own right.

join a class, sign up for a 5k, do something new to motivate you. Sounds like you're just in a rut, at least you recognize it. Having a bad week is not the end of the world.:ohwell:

Good Luck, you've gotten this far I'lm sure you will get back on track.

I went through this too. I was moving out from my ex husbands house though so I was a little stressed out  BUT I then just didnt stress too much about it and then signed up for a 5K. I ran 3 times this week and am more focused. I would just assess what you want to happen, where your weight is vs where you want it to be and give yourself time to get back into the groove. Hope you get back in the mood soon!
  • Oh, been there done that! I started losing weight right before Christmas. I hit a plateau at 16 lbs. lost and decided to screw everything. I joined this site hoping to keep myself on track. The important part is STARTING again!!!! I didn't gain any of the 16 back, but it's far from where I want to be. Tomorrow is a new day and keep plugging forward! Congrats on the 20!!!!!!!!!!!

This is the normal cycle. With the amount of weight you want to lose, you will hit it a couple of times. The only thing you can do is push thru it. Be committed to your goal. Change up what you're doing to work out so that it's fun (I recently started jogging at the gym, I never thought I could do this at this weight, but I am doing the Couch to 5K program but it's actually fun!)

Find someone to hold yourself accountable. You need accountability.

Thanks everyone!! I'm feeling more motivated this morning. I decided to do the President's Challenge to give myself a boost. I also am thinking about doing the next Adventure Boot Camp in my area. It doesn't start until June 1, but it would be something to look forward to. Now to figure out how to pay for it. . .

Thanks!! It isn't easy, but I'm managing. I'm sure it hasn't helped with my motivation problems. But, I promised myself I WILL manage to stop smoking and lose weight at the same time.

It looks like you're saving some money by giving up smoking, so that's one way to help pay for Boot Camp. Is there anything else you can give up - renting movies, buying coffee out, a few take out meals? I was amazed at how much money (and calories) I saved by staying out of the drive-through and making coffee at home. Good luck!

You should have sent him off alone to go eat a pizza. You can change your views of your day in "the moment" not tomorrow. Why prolong it, do something about it now. You'll be surprised how much self control you can have if you're willing to explore it. Good luck, as far as the exercise goes, there just isn't an excuse, you have to make time, don't put off to tomorrow what you can accomplish NOW!
    good luck.
