Road Trip

Hey everyone! I'm looking for snack ideas for an 8 hour road trip that I will be taking in 3 weeks. I usually choose Baked Cheetos and Diet Dew ( caffine to keep me awake, I drive at night). By the time I get 250 miles out, I want something sweet, get peanut M&Ms, then want something salty, you see the cycle. By the time I get to my parents house, I feel bloated and horrible! I usually crave salty instead of sweet, but have never developed a taste for nuts that's aren't sugared and roasted! Any idea's would be welcomed!!!
Thank you!

how about packing a cooler with healthy options like fruit, carrots, celery, etc? I think if you can plan up front to not have the temptations near you, you will have a better shot at succeeding.0

I understand. Before I started trying to change my lifestyle, my favorite road snack was honey bbq frito spirals. I love those! But since then, I have tried to go the fruit and veggie route, and sometimes, that is just not what I want in the car. So recently, I have been trying to pop my own popcorn ahead, and packed some dry cereal. I think I like crunchy while driving! Good luck, and drive safe!0

8 hours is more than just time for a snack.. plan something bigger, a healthy sandwich, something more filling so you dont feel like you need to snack the whole way.. then get a low fat granola bar, some hot-air popped popcorn, celery, carrots, and lots and lots of water... oh, and lots of loud music to keep you movin in your seat and awake0

I agree with the suggestions of healthy sandwiches, granola bars, fruit, popcorn, nuts, fruit leathers, some of those 100 calorie snack packs, protein bars, stop for green tea for energy, edamame beans, and just as many whole grains & foods filled with nutrition as possible.
Have fun!0 -
Maybe there are some kind of protein bars that you'd enjoy that have chocolate in them to work on your chocolate cravings. That will keep you full and satisfied (hopefully). You could also make some kind of healthy trail mix with chocolate chips, nuts, seeds, dried fruit, breakfast cereal/granola, pretzels, popped popcorn, etc.0

I happen to be on a road trip right now, and I needed a snack, too.
I'm not fond of what one can find in the local truck stops, that's for sure!
...I did bring some carrots and apples, etc, and they worked fine. However, I felt like I needed protein, too. I was able to find (at a grocery store, in the "natural/organic" section) these yummy bars called Kind Fruit & Nut bars. I selected an almond & coconut variety and boy was it GOOD!!It sure kept me fueled between breakfast & lunch, that's for sure!
So you may want to see what's in your grocery store that's salty & sweet at the same time. I'd make sure you found something that doesn't have a lot of weird chemical stuff in it (the Kind bars had almonds, honey, shredded coconut, coconut chips, glucose, puffed rice, chicory fiber, and soy lecithin). I think that the Kind bars are healthy--I can understand pretty much all of what's in the ingredients!
Good luck to you! (And buy 2 1-qt bottles of water to drink along the way, too!)0 -
I'm getting some great ideas!!! Thanks for the replies and keep them coming!!0
