I am a type 2 diabetic, who takes Metformin and was recently switched from Actos to Glipizide. Today was my first dose and my sugar readings are lower than they have been in 15 years. However, I'm also experiencing what may be some slight side effects.

Anyone out there, who may be taking either Glipizide alone, or in combination with Metformin? If so, would love your feedback on your experience with this medication! Thanks!

I was diagnosed in 2009 with type 2 diabetes... had A1c of 10.0 and was put on Metformin and Glipizide, I was gradually put on the Metformin but was started right up on the Glipizide. I lost 100 lbs. in 6 months and in that time my A1c dropped significantly so I was taken off Glipizide... Another reason I was taken off was because I was having dizzy spells and near black outs from time to time... And during these episodes I would check my blood sugars and would be very low (like 40's) I had to make sure I had glucose tablets on hand.... But as soon as I came off the Glipizide within a few weeks those symptoms reversed and haven't been a problem since.... I am still on Metformin and my A1c are now running around 5.4

Thanks Ed. I'm on day 2 and feeling a little better - although still a little light-headed. My sugar readings these past two days are significantly lower than they had been on the Metformin/Actos combination. I pray for the day that my meds are reduced. I'm worried rght now because I'm on the max daily dose of Metformin, although I belive the lowest dosage of Glipizide. My next blood work is in 4 weeks - so we'll see what they do!
