Fiber Cancelling Carbs??

Since starting my journey I've been a carb watcher, however I eat a ton of beans, I love them, they keep me full. I recently read that fiber cancels out carbs for example if my beans are 50g carbs, but have 15g of fiber, I really only count 35g of carbs. Does anyone know if this is true and why does that work?

I don't concern myself with carbs, low carb, no carb, whatever, but i think this is called net carbs or something like that.
Fiber is a good carb that you need/want and should not cut out of your diet or severely limit, so it does not count towards your carb allowance for the day on some diets...that is my guess.0 -
It's because fiber is harder for body to digest so it uses up more calories to digest..hence the lower net calories compared to refined food with little or no fiber.0
