Gotta tone up before heading back to Florida!

Hi, I just joined MFP today actually and am pretty excited about the future, come to find out, I've been trying to lose weight the wrong way for a couple weeks now (Basically starving myself).
I currently weight roughly 248 and I'm 6'4, I'm not completely concerned with the lbs I shed as I plan on putting on muscle but I'm definitely above my BMI, according to that I should weight about 205, just want to get rid of my "love handles", gut and flatten my chest.
I'm 28 and currently living in Iowa, my girlfriend lives in St. Pete, Florida and I'll be moving back down at the start of may (If not sooner!)
I'm currently only working with a treadmill (A nice one though) but plan on picking up a weight bench in the near future.
