I would truly appreciate it if someone took a look at my diary!! I want to make sure I'm not eating crap and doing this right!!

Please keep in mind that the reason why my diary lacks fruit is because of my many allergies to tree fruits (apples, peaches, etc) believe me, id love to pick up an apple and munch, but sadly I can't

Also, I'm currently 180 (starting weight was 193) have been at this almost 2 weeks, and get 1410 calories daily.. please let me know if this is an adequete calories goal!!

  • hi kasey... 1200 calories per day is best for weight loss. This amount takes in to account what your body needs to function, whilst also maximising weight loss.
you should stick to this amount as much as possible..
    good luck!

I agree with Courtaney. Also try to stay away from too many WW meals. Although they are low in fat and calories they are high in sodium and that can hinder weight loss. I talk from experience since if I have too much sodium in one day, I gain weight the next. Albeit, it's only water weight, but still not too good for you.

sorry i'm lazy - just looked at today's entry. i see alot of brand names i'd try to get more fresh stuff in there. i think the calorie goal you have at the moment is about right if not a little low - i wouldn't cut back to 1200 as you don't want your body to start hanging on to stuff - and remember to eat back any exercise calories as MFP has already given you a deficit.
    hope this helps :)
  • Hi Kasey! The 1200 calorie thing is not true! 1200 calories is the LEAST amount of calories that an average sized person needs to function. It is not recommended as a goal for everyone though. The larger you are, the more calories your body needs. 1200 calories may be fine for someone who is 120-140lbs but if you weigh more than that, 1400-1600 calories is recommended for optimal weight loss. If you try to eat less than that, your body will go into starvation mode and will hold on to all your fat stores and you won't lose any weight. You might even gain.
That said, I looked at your diary and you look good. You're getting enough protein and good fats. Make sure to get veggies every day. Keep it up!

I don't necessarily think you have to set your calories @ 1200, but you will lose faster if you do. I notice you have a LOT of snacking on processed foods....lots of WW products. I, myself try to eat natural when ever possible...just my perspective. I also do not like to drink fruit juices because it's a lot of calories for a glass of OJ....if you can eat oranges how about Cuties...2 cuties are much lower in calories and higher in fiber making you feel fuller longer. What fruits can you eat? Any or none?

I also find that I stay fuller longer if I have more protein...I see that you are often low on protein..you might find ways to increase your protein. My husband struggles with feeling hungry and adding protein helps him a lot....his favorite is grilled chicken breast...you get a lot of chicken for not a lot of calories...

just some random thought on my part...good luck...

Your choices are pretty healthy, I think you need to make sure you eat all the calories MFP has allowed for you. You may be different, but most of us find if we don't our progress really slows down. I'm even adding all my exercise calories, starting this week, just trying to get the scale to move.

    Hi Kasey,

you can track how many servings you get of each food group and see how you are doing. I am linking you to the Canadian guidelines because I live here but it should not be that different where you live.

    http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/fn-an/food-guide-aliment/index-eng.php

It is a good place to get started.

If this forum is not providing you with enough answers, another good place to get almost free assessment and recommendations based on your food log would be to contact the nutrition department at a nearby university or college and ask if they have senior or graduate students who could go over your food log with you. This would be a similar step as what you would do to hire a math tutor, with probably a similar fee per hour.
