I try to stay away from processed foods, fresh foods are your best bet, sweet ptotatoes, fresh veggies, fruits, fish, and meats. The packaged things that I do eat are my 100 calorie snacks, dried fruits, and for lunch at work a alot of time I have a frozen weight watchers meal ( just cauz it's easy). But other than that fresh fresh fresh.

I plan out a rough outline for meals during the week (lunches and dinners) then make a list so I know what veg and meats I may need. This helps me to not waste fresh foods. Also, I stock up on meats when on sale then freeze them in serving sizes for later use. Most of my list is perishables- vegetables, fruits, milk, yogurt, eggs, etc. I do always snack on almonds and I always keep my pantry stocked with beans, canned tomatoes, brown rice, and canned salmon.

I always make sure to have essential salad stuff- lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions. Chicken breasts are always in my freezer, its easy to throw together a quick marinade in the morning ready to go when i get home. For snacks i get the light laughing cow cheese and wheat unsalted crackers, and i love those del monte fruit naturals when i want something sweet and juicy. I try and stock up on those when they're 10 for $10. The snacks at night are what get me so i try to be good with those.

I follow a strict meal plan which really drives my list, but the one thing I pretty much always have on hand is Stonyfield Oikos Greek Yogurt. It's like a dessert to me. I've also been getting sugar snap peas recently as a snack.

    Bananas
    Milk
    Eggs
    Kroger Carbmaster Yogurt
    Kroger Frozen Tilapia
    Kroger Frozen Chicken Breasts

    I usually get:

Fresh fruit (depending what I feel like, I choose between):
    Apples
    Bananas
    Watermelon
    Pineapple
    Cantaloupe

    Fresh veggies, mainly:
    Lettuce
    Zucchini
    Pico de Gallo

    Reduced fat crackers
    Chunk Light Tuna in water
    Light Mayo
    Mustard
    35 calorie whole wheat bread
    Fat free turkey breast
    Plain yogurt (Dannon fat free)
Low fat cheese (usually 4 cheese mexican by Sargento)
    Thin corn tortillas
    Garbanzo beans
    Black beans
    Chicken breast
    Shrimp
    Smart Ones/Lean Cuisine
    Raw almonds
    Eggs or egg beaters
    100 calorie packs
    Slim fast protein bars
    Sargento Light cheese sticks
    Yoplait light
    Salsa

Some of my favorite snacks are zucchini slices and salsa, 5 reduced fat club crackers and tuna, and a garbanzo salad (tuna, garbanzo beans and pico de gallo).

I really like to make little tacos with the corn tortillas, and then poach and shred the chicken and mix it with a little bit of the plain yogurt (can use Greek too, but i prefer regular Dannon fat free) and the low fat Sargento Mexican cheese. They're pretty easy to throw together once you have the chicken shredded. You can just throw them in the microwave for 30 seconds and they're ready.

My diary is open, so feel free to check it out. Hope this helped!

I always meal plan for the entire week first, then I make my list. I have to do this, otherwise I'm stopping every night after work and that usually leads to poor choices and a snack bag of chips!

What is on my list every week:

    skim milk
    cheerios (plain and honey nut)
    wheat bread
    wheat tortillas
    laughing cow
    string cheese
    yogurt
    oranges
    apples
    grapes
    applesauce
    lettuce
    tomatoes
    potatoes
    eggs
    tuna
    chicken

More is on the list according to the meal plan, but those items are what I get pretty much every week.

I like the Carb Control energy drinks with 17g of protein it's fabulous. Personally I like the strawberry best (yes better than the chocolate).
    eggs
    turkey sausage
Joseph's lavish bread 1/2 piece is 60 calories & 7 carbs. (one piece is HUGE!)
Julian bread 1 net carb per slice and 50 calories
    egg whites
    spinach
    broccoli
    green beans
    sugar free jello
    redi whip cream (aerosol can)
    part skim cheese sticks
laughing cow garlic & herb cheese wedges (found in cardboard wheel)
    lettuce
Walden farms salad dressings...0 fat 0 calories 0 carbs. I *really* love the honey Dijon and Chipolte ranch (it has a kick to it) not too fond of the sesame ginger and wish I could find Italian.
    turkey pepperoni
    Carb Smart ice cream (bryers)
    Philly Dream Stix
    Chicken
    Ground turkey breast

I'm pretty budget-conscious so I buy whatever fresh or frozen meats, seafood, fruits, and veggies are on sale. My menu is then created by what I can score a deal on, which keeps it varied and gives me a chance to experiment with different ideas. Kroger has so many manager's specials in the produce section that my salads can be made pretty cheaply. Otherwise, I always keep peanut butter, protein bars, and greek yogurt on hand (chobani is my favorite). I just moved and there are no Krogers or Publixes, which were always my favorite store. I've yet to find an adequate replacement :-(
  • I'm the kind of person who can happily eat the same 4 or 5 things everyday. My staple items are:
    liquid egg whites
    apples
    strawberries (when in season)
Chobani fat free vanilla greek yogurt
    Mini carrots
    Hummus
    Brown rice
    Tuna
    Sweet potatos
    Frozen green veggies
    Almonds (for after the workout)
    Coffee
    Green tea
    String cheese

That's about it unless I see something on sale or have a coupon for a healthy item I wouldn't buy otherwise.

Here's a list of the staples I keep on hand, probably makes up about 95% of my diet in varying combinations:

    Boneless skinless chicken breast
    Eggs
    Old El Paso refried beans
    La Banderita Fat Free Tortillas
    Blue Diamond Bold almonds
Skippy or Planters Natural peanut butter
    Light sour cream
    Salsa
    Lettuce
    Onion
    Peppers
    Black olives
    Bananas
    Broccoli
Fruit for snacking (depends on my mood: last week was grapes, today was clementines)
    Nonstick cooking spray
    Variety of spices

It might not look like a lot, but just mixing and matching ingredients results in a wide variety of flavor profiles; I never get bored or feel like I'm depriving myself in any way. And my bills have been drastically reduced since I stopped filling my cupboards with pre-made food products.
