How many of y'all are intentionally targeting a percentage of your daily calories as carbs - fats - protiens. By this I am not asking whether you are Atkins or Zone dieting.
I didnt pay much attention to this until MFP added the daily summary pie chart feature on the mobil ap. When I saw that MFP was recommending 55% of my daily callories as carbs, it just sounded high to me. Last week I adjusted my menu to lower the carbs to less than 45% and since then I crashed through the plateua and lost 3 pounds in a week.
I dont think that 3 pounds a week is sustainable, and I am not even possitive its related to lowering my carbs. I would really like some feed back from the group and your thoughts on the matter.

I had mine set up as 40 carbs/30 fats and protein. I recently changed it to 45 carbs/30 fats and 25 protein since I was having a hard time keeping my carbs down. Once I'm home for the summer and it is easier to manage my snacks and keep track of them I'll switch it back to 40/30/30.

    Hey there,

i started doing MFP months ago and barely shifted a pound even though i was always within calories, exercising, drinking water etc etc. I did an 'audit' on what diets have really worked for me over the years and the common denominator seems to be carbs. So i've started the south beach diet and in a week i've shifted nearly 6 pounds! I think that different people react to different alterations in their diet so you may be like me: 55% carbs is just too much and regardless of how much fat or other elements i restrict i just won't lose weight.

Like i say, everyone's different but that's been my experience.

I try to keep to carbs 65% fat 15% protein 20%. This works well for me. I lose on average 1lb a week.

I changed my carbs too. Way too high. I have it set on 35/35/30 carbs/protein/fat.

I am probably hitting more of 26/37/37 carbs/protein/fats. My fats are higher because I eat a tablespoon of coconut oil/day and put it in my crock pot....so that makes my fats higher.

My doctor suggested a low (not NO) carb diet for me to try to break though a plateau as well - he said no more than 75g of carbs/day, so I had to manually adjust my levels on MFP. I think now I have 20% carbs, 45% protein and 35% fat. It's hard to stick to, but at least it keeps me in line.

In general I am over on protein, under on carbs, and right on or a bit under calories and its worked well for me. I think I would be way hungrier if I ate less protein and more carbs

Low carb diet works for me. That is how I've lost all my weight. It helps me keep my eating under control, very minimal cravings, feeling full, and satisfied, less mood swings, and stable blood sugar levels. Those are just some positives that I've experience with my eating plan. Granted it's not for everyone. But it works for me! I keep my carbs around 10%. 25-30 net carbs a day. I usually consume around 50-60 carbs with 25-30 being fiber, mostly from veggies.

40/30/30 is where I've found the best results.

I think percentages aren't the best way to set up a diet, because the numbers get skewed as calorie intake changes. Having minimum targets for each macro is more useful

Ya, I agree. I put my setting on 35/35/30...but really, I try to at least consume my lean weight in protein. So, at least 106 grams. And that is where I try to keep my carbs as well. But it is a good guideline when I am choosing something to eat or I am going to cook. I try to increase the protein and lower the carbs.

Tink - How were you able to change your percentages. I havent found a setting on the web page to do that?

Is that 55% based on the old USDA food pyramid ?

Someone I respect suggested a ratio for me would be 20-25% protein, 30-35% fat, and 40-45% carb's. I try to aim for the protein and carb ratios, with an eye to raising the protein slightly and lower the carb's slightly. (I am insulin resistant, and carb's and protein spike insulin production, especially simple carb's.)

That MFP pie chart is actually the only thing I really pay attention to. I don't really care about total calories or fat...within reason.

I went to Jillianmichaels.com and entered info about my height, weight, body shape and cravings and it said I was likely a slow oxidizer and would benefit from a diet with 60%carbs, 25% protein and 15% fat. My aunt did well with the 40/30/30 diet so I was looking at changing my goals to that, but am not sure now. I'm interested in learning more about body types and metabolism.

45% Carbs, 25% Protein, 30% Fat. I have reached my goal and have been maintaining for over a year by sticking to these numbers. The calories have gone from 1200 to 1400.
