Help!!! HRM Confusion! Pyle Sport?

Posted this earlier, but no one responded. Hoping to get some answers.
After much input about inaccurate calorie burn rates between MFP and cardio machines, the consensus seems to be that heart rate monitors (HRMs) are the way to go. I don't have a lot of money, so I have to go with an affordable option. I do most of my exercise (3/5ths) in the water, so waterproof is essential. I'm looking at the Pyle Sports PHRM38PN Heart Rate Monitor Watch model. It has a chest strap and most of the reviews reference this as the best way to use it. Actually, no one I've seen mention using it seems to use it as a watch.
So here are my questions.
1. Is there a point to even bothering to use it as a watch? Most folks seems to wear the strap and make sure it's tight and then reviews say it's incredibly accurate. Has anyone used it in watch form? Is it at all accurate this way? Not a deal breaker, I'm just curious.
2. It claims to be waterproof up to 30 ft. Has anyone here used it in a pool? Our pool is only 4.5 feet deep at the deepest, so I assume it would work fine there. I am assuming the 30 ft means depth. (Yes, I'm that dense. Yes, I need it spelled out. Feel free to call me names. )
3. Has anyone tried this model (color irrelevant) and had it break quickly? Anyone hated it and if so why?
4. Women, how and where do you wear the chest strap? Particularly larger-busted women (I'm a g cup).
Thanks so much for your input!

I've been wondering about this HRM as well but it seems the only HRM people on here talk about are the polar ones which makes me uneasy about buying the pyle sport one. But its so cheap im tempted0

heres the instructions:
http://www.pyleaudio.com/sku/PHRM38PN/Heart-Rate-Monitor-Watch-WMinimum,-Average-Heart-Rate,-Calorie-Counter,-and-Target-Zones(Pink-Color)
ask manufacturer
using any hrm as a watch is same as any, take off heart rate sensor.
it should be fine, only hrm's that I hear problems with are the ones without the strap.
you wear it like a underwire.0 -
Let me tell you that with HRM's, you get what you pay for.. and if it seems too good to be true, then it prob. is.
Personally, I'd save up and get a decent one like Polar.. but thats just my opinion. For 30 or so more dollars on Amazon you can get the FT4, which can be worn in water, comes with a chest strap and will be a lot more accurate calorie estimation wise.0 -
Thank you! I have been just about fed up with this Pyle.... So the Polar is user friendly?0

I bought this same sports watch. I have only had it for 2 days now. The chest strap actually works just fine. I don't have a large bust (36C) so it fits fine. My heart rate always seem to be a bit off though.
I can't get the watch to count calories!! So frustrating. It looks as if I have to run the timer to get it to count calories! I just want wear the watch when I am not working out to just get an idea of how many calories I burn during the day. It always says 0... I should've just saved my money and got a Polar.
I hope you are having better luck with yours!0 -
No experience with Pyle, I have a Polar FT4 and no problems with it after 2 years of use. I can wear mine as just a watch but that's all it is then is a watch. Without the strap you don't get any HR readings. It's good to 30 ft depth, the only restriction is to not push the buttons while under water. You wear the chest strap the same place as your bra band would be and make sure it's tight to your skin with the electrode patches wet.0

pulling hens teeth, i like that.
when i turned mine on it had my max hr at 169 and i hadn't even done anything. cant seem to reset that.
did all the set ups per manual and when i use it to calculate calories burned i get lots of readings, not sure if i have to add them all up or what. also my heart rate seems to jump all over the place during my workout and i'm pretty sure i don't have heart issues. from 87 to 113 to 123 in seconds. i don't get it. pretty frustrating that i can't find support online to help make sure i'm setting it accurately. bought mine with the ddp yoga set.0 -
I dont know about heart rate monitors but I do know that if you planning on.swimming with a wstch.you should go for one st least 100m wster resistant! 30 m is not enough unless just washing dishes or light splashing! The watch info usually indicates it but also.check.online!
You could just get a cheap waterproof 100m casio stopwatch, time your swims, then use online calculator to give you a rough estimate!
I swam with someone wearing an.HRM monitor, compared his readings to my estimates snd they weren't that far off!
Also consider posting your question in the swimmers group and you get more responses!0
