Hello,
This is the 2nd time that this has happened in the last 2 months....after a good workout at the gym - approx 45 mins strength training upper body and then 45 mins on the arc trainer I go to do my crunches and once I lay down on the mat, I smell this ammonia odor in my nose....I drank 24 oz of water during workout and plenty throughout the am and had a banana and pb about an hour prior to workout, and actually had a heavy carb morning with breakfast (3 pieces of whole wheat french toast and then a sandwich for lunch on w/w)...is this normal????? The smell didn't seem to last but maybe for 10-15 minutes...til I got home, it was gone???? Anyone? anyone? anyone?
Thanks!

you could be smelling the ammonia used to wipe down the mats...0

the ammonia smell is from your body processing amino acids- the breakdown leads to an increase in nitrogen. It can come from not having enough water or from not enough unprocessed carbohydrate. Try having an apple (complex carbohydrate) or oatmeal before you work out.0

I thought I remembered a similar posting awhile back. Check out this thread and a couple of the included links.0 -

Yep! I was definitely not getting enough water and sometimes not enough fuel prior to a workout. Now I eat my afternoon snack half before a workout and half after and drink about 80-100 oz of fluid a day.0

This sounds good....I did have a banana and pb before workout and I thought plenty of carbs with my breakfast choice - all in all, I had 5 pieces of whole wheat bread by 5 that afternoon....but, I am thinking that the water may have been the culprit....I did have my 24 ozs during the workout, but will aim to add much much more....I drink more water during the week and save my diet soda fix for the weekends, so this very well may have been the culprit....also, it is TOM, so not sure if that would have anything to do with it or not.....I just appreciate knowing that other "regulars" have experienced the same thing and were able to correct the problem.
Thanks again!!!!!:flowerforyou:0
