Ok I started this journey weighing in at 190 I am now 141 and have 1/2 a pound before I'm at the top range of normal according to my Wii.
Now I feel pretty good about what I've accomplished so far and am aiming for 125 my BMI weight.
My family has started make noise about me loosing to much weight and that I look good now.
I agree I don't look to bad right now (in clothes) but I really want to loose the extra fat and look good say in a bikini one day.
The question that keeps going through my head is will the 16 pounds I have left to loose really make that much difference in how I feel about the way I look?
Now I know I'm really the only one who can answer this question but I suspect that I'm not the only one out there thinking like this and I was wondering if anyone out there has any feedback or advice

if 125 is your goal, and its a safe one (which it sounds like it is) then i say go for it! I get told the same thing by a lot of my friends, but i know i'm healthy and i am doing it in a healthy way.

Heather I think you've done amazing! And, you're right you are the only one that can answer that question. I can't answer that question as I've never been that close to being where I'd like to be. But, I do know that if I don't get things straight in my head that I won't be completely happy at any weight.

    Again, great job!

Maybe instead of focusing on a final number, just focus on continuing to make healthy choices.

You do what feels right for you.....not your family!. If you would feel more comfortable shifting the 16 pounds you have left then go for it!

P.S. Great stuff for losing what you have already keep up the good work.

Congratulations Heather on your amazing success! :drinker:

That said - I think that because "we" as a society are gettine heavier and heavier it has skewed our views a bit. When someone is a normal weight - they look too skinny now. Also, the fear of eating disorders pops up - no one wants to see a loved one suffer from anexoria. Or buliemia. So there is this effort to keep people sufficiently padded - not just for this, but also so we can feel more comfortable at our weight. If more and more people get to healthy weights, then we have to face how overweight we really are!

So - there's my arm chair pshcyology for the day. If you lose that last 16 lbs, or 10 lbs of it or whatever you decide on, and still aren't totally satisfied, you can always work on toning - that will help a lot. Also, understand we get skewed in our view of ourselves sometimes too and don't see ourselves accurately. Good luck with your decision - I know you'll make the best one for you! And hopefully, your family will come to understand your point of view eventually. :flowerforyou:

I can tell you this, once you get to a certain point with weight loss (and it sounds like you're just about there) the focus should shift from weight loss to body fat %. You're body is no longer carrying enough extra fat to make a significant difference in your quality of life in the future, but having a lower total body fat % will help you be healthier, stronger, and (as a side benefit) make you look better in your birthday suit. Of course, as with any health concept, this should be done within reason and with an eye towards overall health. By that I mean, don't shoot for 5% body fat (not healthy for women).

Just so you know, while your workouts and nutrition may change somewhat when you adjust to this goal, people looking to lose body fat % usually focus on more strength related workouts, and higher intensity workouts. They are usually a little harder on the body, but you develop more defined muscle tone, and retain curves (the sexy, truely womanly curves) while actually reducing body fat.

I hope this helps you Heather.

I agree that if your original goal is a healthy weight, you should go for it. Congrats on the weight loss so far.

    Congratulations on your weight loss!

I have friends and family tell me all the time that I look great (I have even had people call me "skinny"/I don't see it). I know how I feel at 133 lbs. versus 143 lbs. -- that 10 lbs. makes a world of difference in how I feel physically. So I am mainly trying to lose the weight so that I *feel* better. :)

If you feel good now, then I would say work on maintaining that weight now (and if you want to lose a few more pounds later, you can). Maintaining for a while might be good for your metabolism as well.

Great job! As others have said, make healthy choices in nutrition and exercise, and concentrate on fitness rather than weight alone. Your body will settle in on a good weight for you. As your fitness improves, you will be pleased as you look in the mirror...no matter what the scale says.

Thanks for this information it confirms what I have been thinking.
Up until this point I have been doing mostly cardio with a little bit of weights thrown in now I suspect is the point where more weights will do me alot of good along with some cardio of course
I've been skinny before skinny alone does NOT make you look good this time I am going to do this the right way
