I went to the gym first time tonight. I weigh around 341 lbs. I did 3 miles on the treadmill at around a 2.5mph speed and my time was 70 minutes. The treadmill said i burned around 260 calories. Should i be more than that? Seems kind of low to me.

Definitely possible as correct as 2.5 mph is not very fast. But be proud of what you did! After a few more times at 2.5 your body will adjust and you will be able to ramp it up to three or 3.5 even. By the way, faster speed and less time will get you more calories burned. Just a tip. But take your time and stick to form first and then speed. I personally am proud of what you did. You should be too!0

Yeah it definitely felt great no doubt, i haven't worked out liek that in a very long time! I was amazed i did 70 minutes on the treadmill and 3 miles! That doesn't include the almost hour between the bikes either
My thighs hurt lol and now i can't sleep. Also is it normal to be starving after a 3 hr workout? Thanks so much for the kind words.0 -

Walking is one of the best estimates of calories burned, because so many lab tests done on it.
But did you enter your weight into the treadmill? Have to.
I show 525 actually though.
As you get more fit after a couple weeks, not only speed, but perhaps instead incline, or both.
Whatever gets the heart rate up there.0 -
It sure is normal! I have a bit of protein such as a handful of almonds, some beef jerky, or a protein shake. Wait until tomorrow! Your little leggies will come a calling with some aches for you! It will go away eventually though! Fight through it! Make sure you slug down enough water! It is your best friend!0

According to the About.com Walking calculator, http://walking.about.com/library/cal/uccalc1.htm, you should have burned 558 calories for 3 miles at that pace.0

If 1800 calories you eat is about your BMR, and you didn't eat anything to feed the workout - yes, you should be hungry.
And you should feed the workout so the body can get stronger.
Remember, MFP already has a deficit in the math to reach the goal of 1800, undercutting that constantly until you are not hungry means you just lowered your metabolism.0 -
Its normal to be starving without a 3 hour workout. Way to go on the treadmill!0

I didn't enter in my weight though. My HR resting is normally 85-90 bpm and it got to 168bpm max. My upper thighs especially are already not liking me. I went through 24oz of water at the gym like nothing. Next time i pack a healthy snack/s and more water. I can't believe i drank that much.0

That makes much more sense. I need to figure out how to enter in my weight next time. I thought it should have been more.0 -
Burning calories can be HARD. I know it sucks when you feel like you busted your bum & didn't burn 500 calories (I personally get that mentality.) I have a BAD habit of that. *Walk stairmaster for 5 minutes: WHY HAVEN'T I BURNED 100 CALORIES YET?!?! THIS IS RIDICULOUS. Haha, but the more you work out, the easier it gets, promise! Also, if the treadmills you walk on have the ability, try to increase the incline on it if you aren't comfortable increasing your speed just yet. It gets your heart rate up a little more, and burns calories faster.0

I just did a re-analyze of your weight x minutes walked x speed. Assuming you just did a flat walk with no incline you should be between 518 and 556 calories burned. You must have a wonky treadmill there.0 -

So that is why the treadmill could not give an accurate estimate. If you don't feel comfortable entering it, forget the calorie count it gives, useless.
And at that high a HR, I'd imagine you actually burned more than the 525.0 -

Well that's good news then! I actually couldn't figure out how to put my weight into the machine lol it was my 1st time at the gym so i am just learning the machines. And yes my HR got very high it mostly stayed around 163 but it did hit 168 a few times. So if this is the case i just burned over 800 calories between the bike which i did put my weight and the treadmill wow no wonder im so hungry i burned most of the calories i ate today. So im at around 1000-1200 calories today i am allowed 1800.0 -

You have done the math exactly right.
Your body had 1000-1200 calories left for your basic metabolism, the stuff to keep you alive, and everything else you burned calories on today. The BMR that if not given the energy it needs, will just lower.
So how does that compare to your estimated healthy BMR?
