What are the benefits of Green Tea? Can I supplement it for food or is it more effecient to drink before/after meals?

  • I believe it speeds up metabolism,,,
Ive been drinking it just as a drink instead of normal tea, its really nice...pour water in, let it stand for a few minutes, i add a drop of cold water to cool slightly...lovely
  • Cant supplement it for food as it doesnt contain any calories. It is the only "metabolism booster" (apart from perhaps caffeine) that has stacks of scientific research backing it. I take capsules because I dont get much time to drink it during the day. Apart from increasing metabolism it also reduces reactive oxygen species and free radicals - These are one of the MANY potential causes of cancer. There are quite a few other benefits but I cant remember any more off the top of me head =)

I've been drinking 2 cups a day for about 8 weeks now and it's supposed to speed up metabolism but it will only do that if your eating properly so don't use it as a food replacement, have it along side your food, I thinks it's working for me, i've lost about 33lbs so far and i hope it's helping. I hated the taste at first but now i like it.

Green tea and green tea extract pills are chock full of antioxidants which combat cancer causing free radicals. I find it is also a good appetite suppressant for late at night when I am close to my calorie limit for the day.

There are many benefits to green tea and I drink it almost every day for those reasons but I've heard the "mtabolism booster" thing disputed or minimized with the thought that the boost is so slight that it is negligible. Have you come across any research that addresses that specifically?
