Biggest Loser Food Scale

I got one of the Taylor Biggest Loser Food Scales not too long ago, but have only used it a couple times because I can never get an accurate reading on it. I've been wanting to use it more lately, but am still just not sure about it.
Ex: I tare a paper towel (since it can't hold the weight of a plate or anything), & then I weigh broken chips in grams. The number goes anywhere from 28g to 110g in a matter of seconds & then bounces around all throughout those two numbers for like 5 mins. & then turns off. Am I doing something wrong? Any feedback from other users of this scale would be much appreciated! Thanks!
