How Do I Encourage My Family To Get Active With Me?

No matter how much I beg or how much activity I do, they refuse to get up off the couch and exercise too. I really wish I had a healthier family but I don't know how to get them motivated. Any tips?

My husband is generally lazy as *kitten*. A few years ago I came into some unexpected money and bought us both new bikes, and he became hooked. A few other things we both enjoy--that we can do with with people of all ages and fitness levels--are hiking, ice skating, kayaking, and snowshoeing.

He has no interest in running, or practicing yoga with me, or even going for a walk after dinner. But he is slender, doesn't have any health problems, and is a happy guy.

Somewhere along the line, I realized he's healthy and happy and I can't read his disinterest as sabatoge. Now I embrace my solo fitness time as my time.

Good luck with your family! What are their demographics (ages, genders, etc....)?

    Thanks for the reply. :)

My mom's 54, a smoker, addicted to junk food and a couch potato. :-/

My brother's 20, obese and addicted to video games and Italian food. Never ate a salad in his life. lol

Money holds us back a lot from doing more active things so our options are limited. I just wish I could at least get them to take a nice long walk with me and enjoy the spring weather once in a while.

I think at those ages, there isnothing you can really do to make them exercise. Just keep inviting them along, tell them what they're missing out on, and hope that one day they take you up on the offer.

I was going to suggest turn off the cable and hide the video games but since your not the Mom that might get you in trouble. Maybe plant a garden or flowers and maybe that will build interest in them going out.
