Anyone out there with PCOS or on a low G.I diet?

Hi! Im 23 and was yesterday diagnosed with PCOS.
Thank god i listened to my gut back in January and started gettin healthy. Im now 15lbs down and looking to begin eating low g.i foods. Is anyone out there in a similar position to me. Im just lookin for friends and or support.also, what does one eat on an average low g.i diet?
Im interested to know so if anyone could help me out that would be fantastic.

Me too! I found out in October.
It explains so much of my medical issues over the past 8 years and its so good to find out what wrong with my body and how I can make it better. I'm on the Cambridge Diet to shift the initial weight which has 6 steps. I'm currently doing step 2 which includes one low GI meal a day and seems to be really helping. I have to agree that a low GI diet does seem to be the answer, although I'm still in the process of learning about it too.

i dont have PCOS, i dont know much about it at all. but everyone should follow a low GI diet its bettter for slow energy release and maintaining that full feeling for longer after a meal (dosnt spike you blood sug levels)..... WELL DONE ON LOOSING 15LBS0

My friend has it and she has a really had time losing weight, the only thing that works for her is weight watchers. What has everyone else been doing?0

For the past month and half i was just calorie counting and exercising but after reading so much about pcos i thought id try take it up a notch to try and lose even more (as i have a lot to lose), and to be honest, i am less hungry now than i was and i tend to just snack on blueberries throughout the day!0

I've been diagnosed with PCOS for over a decade maybe going on two, did pretty good at managing all the symptoms except weight but still developed gestational diabetes and now 2 years out from my last baby I've managed to get the real thing, so I'm eating low carb but not specifically using the low g.i. diet. I have plans to lose a lot of weight and am currently on a medically supervised plan which includes a panel of specialists from my cardiologist, endocrinologist, dietician, and fitness trainer to a doctor that specializes in weight loss just in case I decide to start using supplements or consider surgery later on down the road. If you or anyone else in this thread are interested I haven't turned down a friend request yet and I'm good for an encouraging shout out now and then.0

Hey there! I do have PCOS but i am not on a low GI diet. Get to a healthy weight and eat right! that is the main thing, because I didnt do that and now have diabetes, although it is well maintained. THANK GOD0

I have PCOS, but am not currently on a low GI diet. I did South Beach at one point and it worked really well and it's definitely low GI. I need to get back on a low GI diet, but I'm a walking sweet tooth! :laugh: :laugh:
PCOS is such a pain - feels like your body just wants to fight against you no matter what. Anyone else dealing with PCOS and Hypothyroidism? That's the double whammy from he%!.0 -
Its weird hearing your stories because SO FAR i haven't had all that trouble with not losing weight and stuff. Iv probably jinxd myself now! But maybe because this is relatively New to me and my body?
I never used to be this big as well so maybe gettin fat gave me pcos?
Who knows,either way, Im glad i found out sooner rather than ignoring my periods gettin further and further apart!0 -
I went to the doctors twice to be diagnosed. My mum has it and the symptoms showed up in me.
One endoc said yes, one endoc said no. o_o
I just assume I have it now. I don't really worry about it too much. All I need to focus on is increasing how much activity I do on a daily basis and watching how many refined versus complex carbs I consume.
Suddenly, A LOT of foods, even in small portions, are scary. I won't even touch them. :noway:0 -

I have PCOS and was diagnosed about 2 years ago. The doctor put me on Metformin but that was a nightmare. I lost weight only because I was sensitive to EVERYTHING. Finally, he put me on BC and that has gotten the painful cysts out of the way (for the most part!). My journey to lose weight hasn't been that hard but I was definately a yo-yo dieter until I finally had enough (about 2 weeks ago). Now I am trying to be realistic with diet and exercise. I do a hybrid low carb, higher protein, low gi diet (basically I eat whatever I want as long as it has good nutrients and isn't empty calories). Feel free to add me.0

I have PCOS and found it almost impossible to lose weight. I have been reading up on it and making the adjustments. Multigrain breads,dairy and adding cinnamon of all things to my dieting. Also staying away from foods that have chemicals in it. Exercise is the key too. You can add me too. It's nice to know there are others who are fighting this battle too.0

Another PCOS-er here! I'm not "on a low g.i. diet", but I am making better choices in regards to what I eat and adding more lean meat and less pastas and breads. I've lost 31 lbs since Thanksgiving by eating well, working out, and doing yoga. :happy:
You can Google "Low gi foods" and the first couple of websites have lists of foods and their rating on the glycemic index. Look in your bookstores for low-carb or no carb cookbooks, and make simple changes to what you eat like subbing white bread and pasta for whole wheat or vegetable pasta (not as bad as people make it out to be). Instead of iceberg lettuce, I eat a spinach salad every weekday, loaded with veggies and a bit of grilled chicken, plus a bit of watermelon and cottage cheese for lunch.
It's great that you found out and are being proactive about managing it. I was diagnosed, and felt so helpless and so far gone that I said there was no way I'd ever be able to lose the weight. And I didn't. I ate the same harmful things that I always did, and kept right on gaining. *shakes head*0 -

I would recommend Rick Gallop's GI diet as he sets it all out so easy to understand and uses the traffic light system to mark singular foods and also recipies in his books. I got the books pretty cheaply from amazon, There are also great pocket guides I think the one I got was a collins book.

I haven't done the GI in full for a while now but when I did do it I always had energy and was always full0 -
I want to thank you for this info since I have had PCOS since I was 10 years old and his book really does help when not much else does. I have been on Rick's diet and in just 5 days I dropped 4.5 lbs! I am thrilled and I thank you from the bottom of my heart!0
