Do you put food ON your body rather than IN your body? What are some of the foods you use for beauty products? Because of issues with allergies I'm scrubbing my face with oatmeal and baking soda & use olive oil to condition my hair.

avacado, banana (face or hair) and egg yolke (conditioner) whites (face mask) milk yoghurt are good for face and skin (lactic acid helps cleanse dead skin) honey great for skin.
  • - Extra Virgin Olive Oil mixed with Rosemary for a hair mask. (Rosemary is said to stimulate hair folicles).

    - Extra Virgin Coconut oil added to a bath. Great for hair and skin:happy:

    - Greek Yogurt mixed with oatmeal and coffee for a face mask.

Those are just a few I can think of right now...

I use coconut oil on my finger nails (contemplating trying it on my hair too) and in the bath, and olive oil to clear my ears!

Apple cider vinegar in hair to help make it shiny. Coconut oil is fantastic for dry skin and as a deep conditioning treatment. Very rarely I'll put a little baking soda in my shampoo/face wash/body wash. It gets my hair/scalp/face/skin SUPER clean. I have to follow with a heavy dose of conditioner and moisturizer. It's pretty intense so I can't do it often but there are times when I really need it (after an all day hike, installing flooring, moving, etc).

Some other uses that aren't personal care-related:

    Lemons:
Copper polish. Add a little salt and you can also polish stainless steel or brass.

    Milk:
Removing ink stains from clothing. Just soak item overnight in milk and then wash as usual...takes care of most ink stains.

    Peanut Butter:
Rather than spraying chemicals to improve the smell of my home, I'll put a dollop of peanut butter in a pan on low heat. Ten or fifteen minutes later and the place smells like peanut butter cookies.

    Vinegar:
One part vinegar, two parts water makes great window cleaner.

    Vodka:
When not destroying my liver and killing brain cells [I believe in natural selection anyway], vodka can be spritzed onto clothes or sneakers to keep them smelling fresh.

    Cheers.

honey can be good with oatmeal in a face mask too for extra moisturisation or add ground almonds for extra exfoliation too, milk powder in the bath for soft skin like cleopatra did!
pure almond oil or coconut oil is a good moisturiser after bathing if you want natural products. Try and get organic if you want the more natural products.

Hehehe...I'm glad I'm not the only one who immediately thought... :blushing:

We use natural remedies around here. Elderberries are a strong antiviral--a study published in the American Journal of Medicine around the time the swine flu hit showed that elderberry syrup was just as effective as Tamiflu in lessening the duration and symptoms of the flu. I give my family homemade elderberry syrup at the first sign of scratchy throats or runny noses, and with 6 children, we've only had one child needing a "sick visit" to the ped in the past 3 years.
(Elderberry syrup also tastes great on pancakes.)

Garlic is a broad-spectrum antibiotic. We crush a clove of garlic, let it sit in olive oil for a bit, and instill a couple drops into aching ears. Or we cut it up into small pieces and swallow like pills to help clear up other infections. After this baby was born, I succesfully treated mastitis by taking garlic cloves (along with rosemary compresses for my breast.) If any of y'all ladies have ever dealt with full-blown mastitis, you know it feels as bad as the flu! Raw garlic got rid of the fever and the aches in one day--comparable to the Keflex I've taken in the past.

Grated and boiled ginger root, strained and mixed with lemon and honey, is a great cold remedy.
Raw honey also will soothe a sore throat and quieten a cough.

I'm pretty sure there isn't much white vinegar can't do. I use it to clean my bathroom (it actually gets rid of the grease my filthy mechanic bf leaves everywhere, even in our old tub), I use it in my laundry instead of bleach (also kills smells in work out clothes), I wash my hair with it once/week (removes product build up & makes it shiny).
I use olive oil to condition my hair & I soak my nails in it. I also mix olive oil & brown sugar to make yummy body scrub.

Corn Starch - Excellent for getting rid of ants. Put a tablespoon or two on an ant pile & in about 2-3 days, they're dead. They can't digest the stuff, so it just builds up in their system until...
Also can be used as a dry bath for dogs. Spread into the hair & then brush out.

Cucumber - The peels work to keep ants away as well. put a stack on the ant pile & they'll move. They won't die, just move.

Potatoes - Gets rid of rust stains.

Vinegar is also a good treatment for yeast.
