Well you shouldn't go less then 1200 cals a day to start. And although you may want to lose 30 pounds really fast....your body might not let you cause you are close to your goal weight (Healthy BMI zone) I know cause you are my height and at the high end of my want to be goal weight right now. I am saying 125-150. So it is gonna likely take a bit. Work out, eat right and eat often, drink alot of water. If you are looking for a size change, maybe don't work on getting the fat off but building some muscle and tone. You may stay at your weight, but look like a toned hottie.

Let me know how it goes :drinker:

Losing weight fast might not mean an incredibly slimmer you ... I see so many people here complaining about losing pounds but not feeling much difference in their clothes.

You really want to focus more in toning which will start lopping the inches away. The scale might look similar for a while but you could easily drop a few pants sizes before losing actual weight. Anyway, strength training and a combination of low and high-impact cardio is often the poison of choice.

Be sure to refuel your muscles on the days you work out which means more calories. MFP will guide you through that.

I am close to your size i am 5'7 and started at 157, i am trying to lose20 pounds. Don't go below your 1200. the weight will come off more and more every day. Don't try to lose it faster. i have lost eight pounds in four weeks, now that i know it WILL come off i am trying not to be in a hurry beause i am determined to maintain this loss and don't want to do anything too sudden to my body... basically i don't want to feel like am on a diet once i am realy to just at the "maintain" stage.

With only 30 to lose, it is unrealistic and unhealthy to attempt to lose 2+ lbs per week without damaging your metabolism or cannibalizing your muscle tissue. This website is designed to help guide you through a steady, healthy and sustainable weight loss program. As long as you are dedicated to eating right and getting enough exercise, you will see the weight disappear! MFP has made it so easy! I think you will find you like it here.

Definitely be careful to give your body adequate fuel. If you're only eating 1200 per day, make sure you are getting high quality foods because 1200 is not enough to eat processed junk and still get vital nutrients. You don't have to be perfect with your calories, so don't stress if one day you go a little over and another day you go a little under - strive for a healthy average. Also, do not dry to eliminate too much healthy fat from your diet - healthy fat is essential for shedding body fat. The body tends to hoard and hold onto nutrients when it feels threatened with starvation. Also, avoid alcohol if possible, as it does slow weight loss progress.

You can do this. Set mini-goals that are realistic and attainable and then reward yourself (with something other than food) when you reach them. And if you slip up now and then, forgive yourself and then kick your butt back into gear so that you can keep pressing towards success. :flowerforyou:
