I am thinking of trying a gluten-free diet and have been a vegetarian for about 4 years. Any already out there that I can be friends with so I can get ideas from your diary?

There are vegetarian groups on MFP, maybe you can check there. I am new to plant-based eating and am not trying to avoid gluten so I don't have any specific suggestions.

I was a gluten-free vegan for a while, but I'm not vegan (or vegetarian) anymore. I can still give you some tips, if you'd like.

Going gluten-free can be hard at first, you have to make sure to read EVERY label. Flour is even used as a thickener in some soups. Some people even avoid soy sauce, as it's made with wheat. I was never one to buy the gluten-free versions of foods, such as breads (plus, GF bread is as heavy and thick as a brick). I've had some GF pasta before, it was... ok. Honestly, once I cut all gluten/wheat out of my diet, I just replaced them with other foods. More vegetables, gluten-free oats, quinoa, etc.

Why are you wanting to try a GF diet? I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease (albeit a very very weak positive... I just say I'm gluten intolerant instead).

I'm mostly wheat free and experimenting with adding a few vegie meals into my week. I can have rice though so rice noodles and a stirfry are good or if you eat eggs, my favourite is an egg foo yung style dish with loads of different vegies in, I drizzle a little sweet chilli sauce on mine and to be honest I didn't check that for wheat but use such a small amount I don't bother! .. just cutting wheat cereals and bread items out of my daily diet has helped. I use gluten free bread for toast, or corn tortillas for sandwich wraps and instead of chapatti's etc, (restricted to no more than twice a week) but it depends if you're allergic to all glutens or just wheat?

My other non meat meal is usually a sweet potato baked like a jacket spud with either salad or baked beans on, or scrambled eggs on toast or cheese on toast! (or beans on toast.. lol!)

I guess if you got gluten free pasta you could make a vege lasagna or pasta bake style meal? .. most pre made vegie meals i found tend to have gluten in them as I've been looking at tesco's meat free range for ideas and things like beanburgers are covered in breadcrumbs or sausages or 'meatballs' have gluten in them.

someone mentioned on another thread of mine you can get gluten free just roll (ready made pastry) so could make your own vegetable or cheese & onion pasties, I'm thinking of having a go at that myself, then could make a batch and freeze them.

Just sent a friend request. Gluten free gets easier, but was definitely a difficult transition (both with recipes and with $$$) so hopefully my diary helps. :glasses:
