For those familiar with the film "Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead", you are already familiar with the REBOOT concept. For those who are not, a REBOOT is when you consume nothing but raw vegetable and fruit juices for a period of time and get all of your nutrition and calories from the juice - a juice fast. This is the most simplest of overviews of FSND.

First, my results. In six days I dropped nearly 6.5 pounds. Today I weight 191.4 pounds. I went from 23.4% BF to 21.9% BF. These numbers are from my bathroom scale. I also lost about 1" in my waist as my 34" jeans are now loose.

My reason for the reboot. To cleanse my pallet from the taste of carbohydrates and to give my body the chance to do what it does best - heal itself. Like most, I consume too many carb, good or bad carbs, and for this reason weight remains higher than it should. I work out regularly and eat well, but my carbs were allows in the higher range. Moving forward, my intent is to eat foods that are <55 on the glycemic index and less than 100 grams of carbs per day. This means sugary snacks will be eaten sparingly, as will rice, bread and pastas.

The REBOOT was not easy but was awarding. I wanted seven days, I got six. The first few days were the hardest because of the cravings, headaches, lack of energy, etc. Each day thereafter got a little easier. The hardest parts was making the juice, cleaning the machine and trying to consume 100 ounces per day of just juice. Of course, no coffee, salt, sugar or any of the other things that we all crave. All the sweet I got was from the fruits and berries I juiced. I also drank a lot of water to help flush out the bad stuff.

My overall body looks better - shocked on how much my stomach flattened out. My skin seems clearer, I have no stiffness in my joints due to the reduction of toxins and inflammation in my system and my super hot wife told me that I actually look younger. It is her comments alone that make me consider this effort a success.

Moving forward, I intend to do a three-day reboot three times per year. A short period to cleanse the body and give my systems a rest.

For those who have NETFLIX, I offer you a great viewing list. For those who don't have NETFLIX, spend the $7 for one month and watch each of the following films. These films will all change your perception of food and what eating healthy means. Keep in mind that weight loss is a direct result of doing things correctly.

1. watch "Supersize Me", then "Fat Head"
2. watch "Forks over Knives", then "Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead"
3. watch "The Gerson Miracle"
4. Consider everything you just learned from each film, write it down and draft a strategy for moving forward.

In closing, if you are going to reboot, talk to your doctor first if you have any illness or are more than 20 pounds from your goal weight. Do your research, invest in a good juicer and use quality produce. I was able to find 80%+ of what I needed at Costco (berries, bags of apples, carrots, mellon, kale, spinach, etc). The rest from local grocery stores. You need also have a strong partner at home. My wife is my rock and without her, there were times when I would have given up. Juicing takes up a lot of space and makes a mess. The mess and your change of attitude is a lot for another to put up with, so make sure your spouse is ready to support you and be your back stop. Change your mind, change your body.

Good luck to you!
