What muscles will I use on crutches?

I'm going to be having a big ankle surgery and will spend 6-12 weeks on crutches.
Last time, I was so freaking sore that I could barely crutch across the hall.
I'm in much better shape this time, and I'd love to know what else I can do to strengthen my arms, chest, etc so that I can carry my own weight more comfortably.
The only caveat is that i cannot do standing exercises because the bad ankle will NOT hold me if I attempt to lift something REALLY heavy.

Push-ups will work some of the same muscles you'll use on the crutches. I broke my ankle when I was 12 and spent the entire summer in a toes-to-hip cast. Never since has my upper body been so buff! LOL! Best of luck with your surgery!! Here's to fast healing! : )0

The major muscles involved are the triceps, pectorals, deltoids, lats, and traps. You can find the kinesiology here --> http://www.exrx.net/Exercise.html
A good exercise to develop those muscle is the "dip". You can do them between a couple of chairs or using dipping bars in a gym.
