What muscles will I use on crutches?

I'm going to be having a big ankle surgery and will spend 6-12 weeks on crutches.

Last time, I was so freaking sore that I could barely crutch across the hall.

I'm in much better shape this time, and I'd love to know what else I can do to strengthen my arms, chest, etc so that I can carry my own weight more comfortably.

The only caveat is that i cannot do standing exercises because the bad ankle will NOT hold me if I attempt to lift something REALLY heavy.
